Cello stools?

What on earth do children sit on to do their cello practice?

My dd has recently started cello and we are struggling with something the right height. I've done a google of "cello stools" put nothing comes up.

Surely just an ordinary chair?
What does she sit on during her lessons? And how old is she?
In DDs school orchestra practise they all just sit on chairs.

She's 7. Her feet don't touch the ground on any of our chairs. She has a little stool from when she was smaller but it's too small - her knees are above her hips!

Surely this must be a common problem!!

I'd speak to her teacher then, and ask what she suggests.

I've seen small cellists come out of Saturday music school with three legged round padded stools that are height adjustable so they do exist.
Have you looked at drum stools as an option?

same problem with my 7 yo dd. teacher uses ordinary children's chair at music school - she does not seem to think much of cello stools (which can be quite expensive).
important thing as you know is that knees are sloping downwards rather than upwards when feet are flat on ground.

have googled and have not come up with much that is affordable. am now using her chair from her child's desk and when she grows out of that will consider her piano stool which is height adjustable but which is not quite suitable at the lowest setting at the moment. that might be something for you to look at.

We got Ds1 a cello stool from Stringers (branches in London & Edinburgh but also online) when he started aged 5. He's now 11 and still using it - it's adjustable - so decent value for money over a 6 year life!

If you use an ordinary chair, could you put the cello spike on a couple of books or something? To lift it a bit.

Thanks everyone - I looked at proper cello stools but couldn't find anything under £250. She has just started and is using a music service cello - so I should probably make sure she is sticking to it and then prioritise a decent cello for her rather than spending that much on a stool!! Have found a leg rest which looks like it should be fine!
