Has anyone out there had their results yet? My daughter auditioned for the first time this year and is very tense about the results. I know they will be here soon but has anyone heard already? Thanks!

No - our first time too; am thinking maybe today or tomorrow ??

They should be out very soon, sometimes they send an email first so look out for that too. We have to wait a bit longer as my daughter is in U13s and they don't let them know until after this weekend which is the last course of the year. Extra stress!
Good luck!

My daughter auditioned for the U13s too but I didn't know they held the results of this one until after the coming weekend. There are all sorts of rumours my daughter gets hold of - that they tell existing members on the day of the last concert and new members possibly before - etc etc. Does anyone know if all the U13s have to wait till next week?
Thankyou - oh the stress!! Good luck everyone!

cordobasarah there are always rumours flying around! My daughter auditioned for Main, so in U13s this year and at the concert and course this weekend. We were told that they will find out next week after the concert for current members hoping for Main, I don't know if it's the same for new successful applicants or if they will find out today. Probably those auditioning for U13s will be told today too - good luck!

Well post arrived and no letter today for us - do they second class post for a 'no' ?

I remember waiting for my own results years ago! Best of luck all round.

Hi, No results for us today yet either. I doubt they would second class one type and not the other, it would be very mean to do so! It looks like no-one out there has received their result yet?? So the wait goes on.......

Friends got their results today - two violins and both got places

My dd has a place in the under 11s orchestra (violin) yay!! Smile

Now, how much is this going to cost us?! Shock

Well my daughter didn't get into the Main Orchestra, but is on the reserve list and has been offered a place in the regionals. She says "everyone who didn't get in will have been offered this". Does anyone know if that's true or not?
She's taken it fairly well apart from this and is determined to fight on another year.
Congratulations to everyone who has been successful!

Dd heard today - place in under 11 for violin (will look out for you Gampy!)
Last year it cost us about £700 for course alone - did not qualify for any bursary (and this excludes travelling!!)

Many congratulations to children who got these hot places!
Do you need to be grade 6 solid distinction standard at least to get into under 11?

GampyWabbit · 07/12/2013 19:12

I think it is £866 this year?? Ouch! We won't qualify either, but will rely on grandparents helping out! At least we can pay in instalments!

Curious - you don't need to have any grades to audition - just need to be playing at high enough level, from what I gather. There is a list on the website of grades held by people in each orchestra last yr I think!!

CURIOUSMIND · 07/12/2013 22:33

I see Gampy, found the list about grade requirement on their website. Thank you!

I looked back at last year's paperwork and it was £788. But I can tell you that by the time we factored in travel from Scotland to her Wiltshire course and then on to the Birmingham gala concert, we must have spent at least double that figure!

Oh no Maggie Shock - will try not to think about the costs and hope grandparents will be very generous. What was the birmingham gala?

Cordobasarah - my son has been offered the same - on reserve list for training orchestra and offered the South East Regional Orchestra. Have many others been offered the same?

Report
janet41 · 08/12/2013 12:48

We got reserve list for training and associate place for the northerlies; they def don't offer it to everyone as we have friends who have not been offered anything. I think it's a great idea and we are really pleased - DD is young and will be highly motivated by the monthly rehearsals and the concert.

I've just looked at the paperwork and it's £812 this year for under 11s.
Birmingham gala celebrated 35th year of NCO and was spectacular event. All orchestras played a bit of their end of course concert repertoire. But it was interesting to see the progression of orchestras. Dd was in training (they are only strings) and they played very well but it was good to be able to witness the jump in the standard of playing of the under 11s.
I just heard an excerpt of the under 13s playing Sibellius's Finlandia which I believe they played at their winter concert today and it was very moving. I have heard that piece played by another reputable children's orchestra but the NCO's was breathtaking.

So, what do the regional rehearsals involve and are they worth doing? Our closest one is around 2hrs away. Also, what day do they happen on? Dd is already in a very good orchestra on Saturdays.

Now, very importantly - what happens about the NCO hoodies??! Dd would like to know when and how she gets one!! Grin

Good luck to all those still waiting for results.

We never went to them. Our nearest one was a 3 hour train ride away and we did mean to do it but the first 2 were cancelled because of the snow this year and we then decided it was too much trouble.
I've heard that some children love them but I suppose it depends a lot on the orchestra - might be worth going to one and deciding. You don't have to continue if you don't wish to.
Check on NCO site to see when they meet up - some are Sat, others Sun.
You'll get information about ordering hoodies (you may well be able to order direct from the website because anyone can order a hoodie although I don't know if orders are seasonal). However, members get to have their name embroidered so I'd wait until receiving the information.

Has anybody who auditioned for U13's got their result yet? DD on tenterhooks expecting every day to be the day! Don't think she'll be able to stand the tension for much longer.
