I hope it's ok starting a new thread. I found the last one so encouraging and didn't want it to stop!!

Also, have to share I've just done W6R3 - my first 25 min run. Wasn't sure I was going to make it to the end, but kept moving (as Jo Whiley told me to) and did it!!

How are others getting on?

Well done @PrincessWatermelon. I've only got four runs left. Can't believe it. Hope I manage to go over 4k with 30mins running and the warm up.

Great work Princess! I'm hoping my calf is recovered enough to get out for a run tonight - if so will be W3R1.

I wasn’t on the last thread but just did w6r2 today then peeped at what was next and was a bit shocked at the 25mins! So good to hear you were successful princess.

I'm a bit of a long term lurker on these posts but I also did Week 6 Run 3 last night & was very chuffed to manage the whole 25 minute run Smile

Thanks for joining me again!
@Cherrypi just keep running! I'm surprised how my distance has increased actually. I walked a minute longer after the warm down and covered 5k in 36 mins.

@UnaOfStormhold trust the programme!! I can't believe I'm running what I am now. So struggled on the first run. Good luck, hope the calf behaves itself.

@drivingmisspotty welcome. I admit that it wasn't an easy run, but I told myself I'd done 20 mins and this was ok and I was prepared for it. Hope it goes well when you come to do it.

@MrsM36 hurrah! Go us - runners!!

Can I ask what app you all use? As I just did my first 25 minute run today but it was week 7 day 1.

firstimemamma · 30/06/2020 17:48

Well done op!

My most recent run is the same one you did and I had jo Whiley too! Smile

What do you all plan to do when you complete couch25k? I only covered 3.72k today including the warm up and cool down walks so I imagine I'll still be attempting to get to 5k!

Yippee!!!

New capris arrived today. They're lush but I still have the crappy issue of mapmyrun going "workout paused, workout resumed" about 15 times a run and it's driving me CRAZY.

This means I need a smart watch with music, doesn't it?!! 😆😆😆

Knocked 2 minutes off my 5km pace since my first one a week ago. That was 38.5 minutes, today was 36.5 minutes. Progress!!!

Cherrypi · 30/06/2020 18:25

Trying to get to 5k will be my plan after finishing too. Well maybe 4k then 4.5k then 5k. I use the official app with Jo Whiley too.

GuyFawkesDay · 30/06/2020 18:27

@Manteo I was doing 4.2km or so in 30 minutes and so decided just to try to get the distance. Was really slow, on purpose.

Since then I try to just increase my pace each time.

Going to try the sprint training thing someone recommended too where you do W1R1 but jog the walks and sprint the runs. Helps increase pace apparently.....not tried it yet but I'm going to give it a go.

Tagging on to this threat. I’ve got w5r3 tomorrow and I’m terrified. 20mins non stop! Seems such a big leap from 2 x 8mins. Somebody please tell me it will be ok!!

GuyFawkesDay · 30/06/2020 18:32

I promise it will. Go steady. Then slow down a bit more. Focus on being tall and your breathing, keep your arms going. I tend to hunch over when tired and actually it just makes things harder!

You'll feel AMAZING once you've done it, it'll be fine!

Yay! Thanks for the new thread!

I did W3R1 again yesterday after my week off and it was way harder than last time! It was really windy in the park though.

Looking forward to tomorrow's run (sort of!)

@Manteo I also use the official c25k one and I run with Jo Whiley. She's amazing! Once this is done I will be going straight to 10k training as I've been talked into signing up for a 10k run in Sept. I'm not entirely sure it'll be happening, but gives me a target. I think I'll have a look at Zenlabs app, or something like that. But the interval training sounds great to improve pace.

@GuyFawkesDay that'd do my head in if my app kept crashing!! Well done on improving your time. I actually have a Garmin Vivoactive 4s arriving for my birthday on Friday, so I'll let you know what it's like. I'm super excited!

@Flamingo25 you have worked up to this. You've prepared for this. You know how to use your breathing and to pace yourself. 4 weeks ago you never thought you'd manage 8 mins. This is the next step. I found the first 5 mins tough, as I got into my rhythm. And then it settled down. Only another 5 mins and you're halfway through. And so you keep running. And then you're told you've only got 5 mins left, so there's no point stopping at that point!! If it's too tough, slow down even more. You've got this.

I did W4R2 today and have felt exhausted the rest of the day. Is that normal? I’ve usually felt energised once I’ve got my breath back.

Is there room for one more on the thread? Should have done w8r3 today but was too lazy. Need some motivation!

@ThickFast I know, shame no link. But the thread was full, I tried to add a link. And I'd waited a while to see if anyone else was starting a new thread. Hopefully everyone will find us 🤞

Thanks for the tags, glad I found you all again!

Thank you for the tag! I’d lost you.

Currently sitting lamenting my burning knees. My right thigh seems fine until I try to go downstairs and then I hop along rather dementedly. Sorry to anyone who thinks graduating is the end of sore legs. I did a 4.71km last Monday concentrating on hills, not time. Then 4.6km on Saturday when I went for speed (came in at 29 mins 31 seconds but absolutely could not run another step). Tried a leg strengthening workout yesterday with squats and lunges aplenty. And just thought I’d do a steady distance today on my usual route but my legs were lead. It was awful. Ended up with 5.5km in 38 minutes but I stopped for a walk twice, and still got the sore legs.

I’m not sure I’m cut out for this running malarkey!

Very steady W3R1 last night - shin was a bit stiff but not sore during or afterwards so hopefully it's on the mend. I think I've definitely learnt the lesson that I need to set my pace by my (lack of) running fitness and not my aerobic fitness!
