how many times a week do you run and how do you spread it out over the seven days?

I try to do a 10k, and two 5k a week. I also try to get out with running club once a week but that depends on my shifts.

Typical would be 45 minutes each time, MWTh and Sat or Sunday. Winter 6m almost only cuz I'm prone to plantar fasciitis.

Mon: Pilates or rest. Today I went for a 3 mile walk in the snow.
Tues: 4 miles or so with club (this could be a steady or a session eg hills, fartlek, speed etc)
Wed: strength in the gym
Thurs: 4 miles again with club (again either steady or a session)
Fri: Rest
Sat: parkrun (3 miles or 5K)
Sun: Long run day or race day. Yesterday I did 13.1 miles. Currently marathon training. When not marathon training I will do about 8

The above isn't every week. I may miss one or two session due to life getting in the way, but generally this is what I would like to do if I could.

5 runs a week here. Sometimes six.

Usually:
Mon - rest day
Tues - speed session, averaging 5 miles
Weds - tempo 6 miles
Thurs - steady 6 miles
Fri - rest day or steady 4/5 miles
Sat - Fast parkrun plus warm up and cool down
Sun - long run, currently 20ish miles as in marathon training.

Try to get out 3 times a week but doesn't always happen with nearly 7 month old baby! Before baby I usually ran 5k twice a week and up to 10k for my 3rd run. Never run more than 10k. Still recovering from baby so only doing up to 5k at the min. I've booked myself a 10k race at the end of April to motivate myself to get back to that level!

Once, maybe twice on a good week, gym on other days though (I've run 9 marathons / ultras on this).

@emmathedilemma that's incredible! Do you mind me asking what your marathon PB is, on just one or two runs a week?

Monday: early Pilates, and evening club run (easy or intervals)
Tuesday: rest
Wednesday: club run (usually 5k, sometimes with hills)
Thursday: rest
Friday: short run to resistance band class and back
Saturday: parkrun
Sunday: long run

I don't think the rest days are optimally spaced, but real life just gets in the way.

At the less impressive end of the scale I manage once a week with a running club 5-7k. And in warmer months an additional 3-5k on my own. Plus Pilates once a week.

@Iambloodystarving a club run is when you go out with your running club, usually splitting off into groups depending on speed and the distance you want to go. For example, I was on one tonight, I went 7.5 miles doing 8 minute miles with a couple of other runners but others went shorter distances etc. Usually stopping and regrouping so nobody gets isolated.

I run 3 days a week- tues, thurs, and Sat typically. I swim mon, Weds, fri and Sunday at the moment, and indoor bike 2 days. I should do more on the bike but hopefully once the weather improves I can do more combo trainings

@Runningonempty84 just under 3:44 from my first marathon (and ironically the worst paced!), 2 other road marathòns under 4 hours, an irritating 4:00:41 off a fairly undulating course and 2 over 4 hours but well under 5 from hilly / non tarmac courses. A 5:28 50k and a close to 7:30 (can't remember exactly) 55k (there was hills and bad weather!!).

emmathedilemma · 26/02/2020 20:30

I've missed one somewhere......last year I had a 4:30ish one when I realised how much I disliked flat tarmac!! Sadly I realised this half way through the race having banged out precision 4hr pacing for the first half!

Runningonempty84 · 27/02/2020 06:57

@emmathedilemma that is AMAZING. How do you think you manage that on minimal mileage? It's so far from "typical" marathon training but clearly you're doing something right...!!

emmathedilemma · 27/02/2020 18:57

Dunno, but it works for me and I'm sticking to it! I don't like running enough to go out 4-5 times a week, club don't meet anywhere convenient for me to get to after work in the evening, and my gym costs a lot of money so I need to use it to justify the cost. I've been ill in the last year so not done as much on the mileage since I did a marathon in July but whilst I've slowed down (need to loose some weight, it's all linked to health condition) and then hopefully get some speed as well as stamina back later this year.

4 or 5 times a week.

Approx 4 miles steady 2-3 days a week.
And 2 days of longer runs or hill trail/road training or both which amount to approx 8-10 miles each - on average, sometimes less, sometimes more.

Last week did a half on Friday and 8 hilly miles on Sat.

Training for a few trail marathons this year.

Mon - rest
Tues - strength session and free weights (mostly to tone up the bingo wings rather than running related)
Wed - intervals or hills
Thurs - club tempo run
Fri - more core strength
Sat - easy parkrun
Sun - long run. Currently marathon training and I've got to do 18 this week Shock. Usually I'd do around 10m.

Id like to do a yoga class but can't fit it in with DCs stuff as well.
