I've done a bit of running in the past, but stopped when I had major disc problems. I'd like to start again but I'll be starting from scratch (& don't want to overdo it and hurt my back).
I though i could start with swimming, yoga and cycling, then work up to running - does that sound doable?
I'd just start running again, but steadily, with a c25k programme or similar. The progression is so steady that you'd be very unlikely to injure yourself.
Cycling or swimming fitness doesn't easily translate into running fitness, so it's not really a case of using other sports to bridge the gap.
I had major back issues a decade or so ago, but now run marathons with no disc problems at all. Losing weight helped a lot too, even though I wasn't technically overweight to start with.
Thank you! I do need to lose weight as I've piled it on while off my feet, so hopefully that will help too.
