Exercise

Does disciplined in exercise, mean disciplined in life?

Pondering the above after hitting the gym this morning.

I arrive at about 7.45am after dropping my toddler at nursery. There are a number of beautifully fit women, finishing showering and changing for work as I arrive.

Their work outfits are mostly smart - possibly fairly corporate - and they're always perfectly made up and generally turned out very well. They've obviously got some "get up and go" both in life and in work.

So, if you're a dedicated exerciser, do you have the same dedication elsewhere in your life? And if you were late to exercise, did it improve your dedication in other areas?

Nope!

I'd a slattenly, procrastinating chaos-monger. But I always fit in my running schedule (which varies in extent depending on the race calendar, but which is carefully planned - I even have a separate diary for it all!)

I took up running about 2.5 years ago, and it has done zero to improve organisation in rest of life. But it's done me the power of good in terms of wider health, including mental health, so there are less strong of other benefits.

No.

My secretary was almost outraged when she saw my exercise diary a couple of years back.

'So you CAN keep track of information when you want to!'

God no. Then again I'm sitting in a car park mn-ing instead of running up the hill beside me, so not sure I'm a great example for either Blush Grin

Nope. Dh is exercise organised, not organised other ways. I'm the exact opposite

Not for me, I prioritise exercise above almost everything else because I love it, I'm lazy and selfish and I avoid doing things I don't want to do in favour of things I enjoy, it just happens to be that I enjoy physical exertion

For those who enjoy exercise discipline doesn't really come into it. For me going to the gym/swimming 4 times a week involves as much discipline as eating chocolate 4 times a week!

I concur, if you're into it your instinct is to do it as much as you can, if you're not then your instinct is to avoid it.
I'm a lazy workshy procrastinator, but, 10 mile runs? yes please:o

AuntieStella slattenly, procrastinating chaos-monger.

I love that description! It describes me perfectly. Love the description but not actually being one Sad

I really want to get fit again and start doing the couch 2 5k I really hope I can be organised and actually do it and not just keep putting it off.

No for me either! I am managing to get super fit this year after taking fitness classes. I started out on 3 a week, but as I have got fitter like a PP said I am prioritising my exercise routine over other things. I am now there at least 5days a week doing hard exercise. But I in no way look professional or otherwise although I do work full time I am a bit scruffy and trying to fit everything in Grin

No I run almost every day but the rest of my life is a bit chaotic and lacks the same routine

Nope. I'm organised about my work out schedule and run with grit and all that. But am lazy apart from that.

Drat!! I was hoping some sort of epiphany would be on the horizon! Seems I may continue to be a slattern, just with a slightly better arse...

I'm the opposite, no exercise at all but very organised and disciplined in my life. Keep thinking I should exercise but I hate all of it and all sports. Off to bake brownies and make soup now instead.

I love exercise. It gives me a buzz and I do several hours each day of varying intensity. Never a chore- it’s the best part of my day.
Even if I groan when the alarm goes off at five, once I’m doing it I feel great

I’m very busy in general- rarely sit down but I’m definitely not organised in other ways.
Hate doing my tax return, I’m not organised about managing the household insurance etc and I lose stuff all the time.

I am organised at work however because I couldn’t do my job if I wasn’t.

I think because I get up early to exercise I free up a few more hours over the weekend to get some life admin done, if that makes sense.

If I've been for a run early doors, I am much more productive. Be that due the headspace, time to focus, think about my day etc or maybe the endorphins etc physically pumping me into action.

I also feel a bit guilty if I haven't got out - and that plays on my mind to distract me.

And in a way, if I am training, although I fit into the 'love it' category, I have to be more organised with everything else to make sure I have time to fit in the longer sessions.

So, yes, it does make me more focussed / productive. Smile

I'd say running is the only area DH is disciplined in Grin ...
