Hello to anyone who wants to join me over here Smile

A few of us tagged onto the end of the new year/new you c25k gang but they were already at the end or had finished and so perhaps it is best for us to have a new one to discuss our newbie woes, aches and pains?

I’m at the beginning of week 3. Just been out again today, I should’ve done W3R2 but repeated w3r1 instead as I wasn’t comfortable last time, I think I took it too fast. Plus, it is ruddy boiling here today! It went much better and i’ll move on to w3r2 on Sunday.

Please join me, say hi and let us know where you are on the programme and update us on how you’re finding it.

Hi! I found the first two weeks easily so skipped to week 6. This was a huge mistake. So I've done week 5 twice now.

I really don't recommend skipping weeks. Just do them faster if they are easy.

My problem is that I find the longer runs boring! Anything above 5 mins and I'm desperate for a change.

No, I wouldn’t skip weeks either. I have done c25k in the past, a fair few years ago and I think i did something similar and ended up with an injury.

Would really love to do this.
I go on holiday 13 weeks tomorrow and desperate to lose some weight.

I have a DH who works 7 days a week, out the house at 6:50am.
2 young children.
Work 4 days a week in a stressful job.
Every night I sit and watch Netflix and eat crap then feel like crap.

I haven't lost any weight BUT I no longer feel guilty about sitting on my arse watching tv.

I've just started running and would love to share aches and pains. I've never completed C25K but started it 4 times! This time I think I'm going to start with just walking/running a circuit near my home and see how it goes.

I'm on W3R3 tomorrow, running with a buggy during the week, so I look forward to my easier solo runs at the weekend.

I'm using the NHS C25K app - what does everyone else use?

Report
Fazackerley · 29/03/2019 17:38

Yes I'm using the nhs one. I started with Michael Johnson but have decided Laura is nicer.

I'm W3R2 at the moment. I repeated one run as I missed a week (horrible cold) but am amazed how good the program is. I never thought I'd be running for 3 minutes straight after just 3 weeks. Brilliant!!!

Well done to everyone who's just started or in early days. It's not easy but hopefully it'll be worth it 👏👏👏

I use the NHS one (green logo) and use Sarah Millican's voice. I'd like to think she's sympathetic with my cause!!

I have wk 5 run 3 to do tomorrow. That's a 20 minute continuous run. Shock
I am thinking of.doing it at park run. Dh does it so I thought I could just do the first 3.5k or however long it takes

Hi all, this is my 3rd time trying C25K and this time I'm determined I'll finish it! Should be on W5 by now but hurt my ankle 2 weeks ago and not been able to run so waiting for that to heal then I'll start again on W3 probably..... I'm really annoyed as I was starting to enjoy it....

Hi all, ive just completed week 1. I’m doing this with my friend. She texted me about it and said why don’t you join me. So here I am.

I’m not bothered about the 5k bit, I just want to see if I can actually learn to run for a decent length of time.

Yippeee! Hello Grin

I’m using an app by Zen Labs with all the ‘encouragement’ and half way stuff turned off. I don’t find it helps all that much. If i’m having a crap one I find it patronising and the halfway markers are demoralising on days when I feel like death but i’m still only halfway there (ffs). If i’m having a good one I like to lose myself in music/a podcast to distract a bit and they just cause unnecessary interruptions and break my focus.

ohcarrie, your home life sounds busy and tiring without much time to get out alone. If you can get out, it is only 30 mins 3x a week but I understand that it might as well be 3 hours 30x a week if you haven’t got it.

Maybe something like the 30day shred would be better for you? The Jillian Michaels workout? Also around 20-30mins, can do at home, will get you fit as a fiddle and toned (as well as reducing Netflix guilt) but you can do it at home when the kids are in bed. There are 3 levels of workout (beginner/intermed/advanced) so you can move up as you improve. She works on stamina, strength and toning, so it’s a good all rounder and will mean your fitness is great when you are in a position to start c25k.

Faz, 20mins! Shock park run might be a good place to do it though, I agree. Hopefully you’ll be buoyed by the group and won’t notice it as much as if you were running alone, bit like marathon runners who say they don’t feel the last few miles as the atmosphere carries them through it.

Seems like a few of us are on w3. I’m tempted to repeat a few of these w3 runs just to give myself a solid base to move on from. Especially given that in a couple of weeks it leaps up from a few minutes of running to 8min run. Zen labs doesn’t give me a 20min block until w7 fazackerley.

Meant to say ohcarrie, the 30 day shred workouts are on you tube so you don’t have to buy them.

I did it!!!!! Not only did I run slow jog continuously for 20 mins, i completed the park run! I even had a sprint finish! I'm hoping I managed under 40 mins. I'm so chuffed with myself.

That's interesting about the Zen app. The NHS one has a 20 min run at the end of week 5 with very little build up. I imagine it puts a few off. Ive looked ahead and by week 7 it's 3 x 25min runs a week Shock

sanity That's exactly how I felt Grin

Doing it at park run was a good idea because you get sort of caught up in it.

Oh hi! Thanks so much for starting a new thread! I'm planning to start week 3 tomorrow.

When do you all do it? I've realised I cannot for the life of me run early in the morning before work. Instead I've taken to doing it straight after work and sometimes with a rucksack and get dinner food on the way back!

Ohcarrie - my life isn't as busy as yours but I actually started doing it because it only takes half an hour all in. What about in the evening when your DP might be home from work?

Trying not to scare myself by looking ahead.

I've got Sarah Millican saying "well done flower" as well. Couldn't face some Olympian who has clearly been running 5k since infancy Grin
