Great North Run anyone?
(19 Posts)As title suggests anyone doing it this year? I applied to the ballot and got in. First year of doing it.
Meeeee!
Did it last year with v little train8ng, but completed it at least - doing it for charity this yr so I really need to up my game!
Have you got accom booked?
Well done for completing it! I don't live too far away so will probably get the train up on the morning.
No but I got ROYAL PARKS HALF!!!!🎉🎉🎉
I got a ballot place for the GNR. Very excited as my first time. My sister lives in Newcastle so no accommodation problems for me
I'm in for it this year. Started training this week.
I got a place through the ballot 🙂. I think I'm excited / scared in equal measure!
I've got a ballot place - yay! My parents live quite close by so no problems with accommodation and my (much faster) DB is doing it too so he can have a drink waiting for me at the finish . I need to get started on some serious training though. I've done it before but years ago and I'm really out of shape. I'm only managing 5k at the moment and not very quickly but I know I can get back up to that distance.
Hi everyone, I also got a ballot place! Super excited!
Have any of you done it before?
I’ve always ran but only for pleasure / fitness. I did my first ‘proper’ race last week (using the word ‘race’ very loosely there) which was a 30k, and will aim to do a couple of smaller half’s before GNR I think.
Glad there's a few of us doing it! 'My dh is doing it too, through a charity place. He's a good runner so we won't be running together.
Been on a 10 miler off road this morning with some friends from my running group which I really enjoyed. Hoping the crowd will see me to the end of the GNR!
How is everyone getting on? Not too long now!
I'm glad I spotted this thread!
I'm not, but I have family members with charity places, and you have just reminded me to go and look for their fund-raising pages.
It’s an awesome race :-) The crowds are the best of any race I’ve done and the music / bands / entertainment along the route are great. There are a wide range of finishing times from super quick club runners to walkers. Maybe don’t go there hoping for a PB though - lots of groups of people doing it together taking up the whole bloody road, lots of stop / start people.... well, just lots of people.
I didn’t enter the ballot this year as I’ve something else on that day, but I will enter again next year. I’ve entered the royal parks ballot 5 times and never got in so good on you running.
Have fun everyone and enjoy every minute!!!
Thanks sheepysheep! It’s my first ‘big’ half marathon, so v excited! My PB hope has generally gone out the window a bit as summer training has not gone to plan, a few people have mentioned it not being a Pb course as you have said though so I’m just going to enjoy it!
Me! This will be my third one. I live v close to finish line so no problem of accommodation
I’m doing it this year as part of marathon training. It’s an awesome run to do, so many crowds cheering you on. My family are away this year so going to be different. My ds normally hands out ice pops or works a water station.
Good luck everyone!
Well I did it. Loved it too. Amazing atmosphere and crowd spurring us on with oranges, ice pops, jelly babies and beer!
My poor nails are not good though!
I’d definitely recommend running it.
But it was so hot... I got burnt
Best race of the year! I handed out medals this year, or was bonkers busy!
