anyone do bodypump? help please on getting started

hi there. I run a bit - parkrun on saturdays and at least twice more during the week - longest distance is half marathon. I would like to add something else preferably weight based.

I have a cross trainer at home so I am using that regularly but I have heard about bodypump and it sounds like the sort of thing that i would enjoy. However I live in the sticks and there aren't any classes locally.

i have looked on youtube for workouts i can try at home but there are loads! just had a go at a les mills one and it seemed ok but don't think it was aimed at beginners tbh plus it was for an hour which feels a bit full on for a newbie (I managed 15 minutes)

so basically i am looking for a workout suitable for a beginner. Would be grateful for any pointers or tips.

Body pump is great but start with really light weights and work up from there over time. It does get easier, honest!

thank you piffpaffpoff - which workout do you use? I don't mind buying something - i just wanted to try something out for free before committing cash iyswim

dont you go to a class? Way better or your technique will be all wrong

Everyone does an hour. If you only do 15 mins you wont exercise everything and your weights are too heavy
current release is 101

The bodypump classes i go to are 45 minutes (missing out 2 arm tracks) or 1 hour (all muscle groups worked). Just start with low weights and work on your technique before increasing them

And bodypump classes are for all levels, the only difference is the amount of weights you use

I do it and I love it, but you need to go to a class.

just googled again and the only place that did bodypump locally has closed. Tonight was mostly about seeing what it involved and to see if i could cope with the exercise. Will look at the 101 and give it a proper go with light weights.

THey probably do a similar one but call it something difference because of the cost! Look at the class descriptions or give them a call- it's good to get the technique right before you try it at home because of the risk of injury. Or try something at home like the 30 day shred- that is designed to do at home so is well explained, and is only 20 min!

OP, see if they've got anything called 'body conditioning' or something like that. It'll be basically the same. I did a fake pump class last night and it was just as good!

I really recommend physically going to a class if at all possible, aside from the technique aspect it'll give you that extra push.

I'll have a wander up to our local leisure centre and see if they have anything similar... Looks to be mostly spinning yoga and pilates but I haven't investigated fully.

Thank you but I can't actually get to either of those. Have found a body conditioning class locally which might work depending on times smile

The classes make you push on through though, whereas you tend to give up at home quicker.
