Well done Hissy

Just got back from lesson and we did flipper work, knackering but good fun and ended up doing 2k with about 24 laps flipper work and also including 38 lengths after class.
Went to champneys yesterday for a nice relaxing day. Did 54 leisurely lengths, plus an aqua aerobics session and a country walk and a nice facial.

Well done Hissy - now keep up that positivity and the momentum and plan your next trip!

Sounds like a lovely day bruffin

Here i am!

Last night was good! I needed it to be and I'm happy (so far) to go back tomorrow

There was a Mrs Hairdo Breaststoke Cruiser in the fast lane next to me. I sent her underwater daggers..

I'm sharing a lane, and there she is head dry, dumbass wedge kick in the middle of the fast lane.

So some of my beautifully planned and calm kicks may have caused more splash than others... 😇

But then at 9pm the boys got in... she didn't stay long then.

It's funny how a smooth, slow, calm TI stroke allows you much more time to see the others around you.

There was a very thrashy woman in the lane on the other side, slap, slap, slap with the arms, kickickickickickick as if chased by a shark 🦈

I swam quietly at her pace... she's no faster than I am... it happens a lot with blokes too. They see me with my pink hat, pink fecking noseclip and now thanks to lovely businessman boyf a fabulous new pink ffs- water bottle (oh and a super dooper mega thin swim towel with in purple and with pink butterflies on it....) think that I'm some older girly girl manatee in a cozzie-- about to bugger up their lap times.. and then I keep up with them, or in some cases outswim them!

So yeah, needed that swim. Going back tomorrow too. Taking aforementioned lovely boyf to the 50m pool at aldershot on Saturday too I think

One thing I noted last night was that I used to swim in lengths of 25m at a time and I'd do 2 or 4. Now I don't even think about the length, I'm registering 50m at a time.

It's easier mentally as only 2 of them to a 100m stint. 4 to 200m, which I'm cracking gradually, finding them easier.

Cross out went a bit awry... that's what happens when you try to be too clever and don't preview...

Nice rights

Getting into bed now and trying to persuade myself to get to the pool for 9am tomorrow (on my lie in day) ...argh.

I got to the pool for 9 this morning. Barely managed the 1600 in 40 mins. It is not my usual pool and it was waaaaaaay too hot, felt like I was suffocating! My face has been like a beetroot the past hour ....

Ha ha Hissy. Actually our local Aquadrome did burn down a few years back. I never thought it might be the flames that caused it.

Been for my first swim in a week just now. Two poorly kids have put paid to any exercise this week. I swam for 40 mins mostly alternating between front crawl and breaststroke. Didn't feel the need to rest for long between lengths so that's progress! And I also did a few lengths where I got the wall before I was expecting to so that's a good sign too right?

We didn't get to go down the shoots

Too busy and they were giving armbands, sadly poor little ds waited for me so we could go down the shoots together, but of course I wasn't able to go as I'd not paid for flumes, only lane swim

I'll see if we can go again next time and we'll both do a bit of both

You made me smile hissy

Luckily this is a swimming thread, not a spelling one, so I vote you can stay!

1K done this morning. Was in bad mood (lots going on in my life) and the swim did not help as it was too busy and full of fuckwits not knowing to wait at the end if someone faster (me) comes along.

I wanted to bite their toes off. I'm going to go on a crusade I think!

Someone left their very nice conditioner in the shower, so I used it.
Look at my lovely silky hair!

Sounds like a frustrating swim rights

Swimming behind someone slower than you has to be as annoying as driving behind someone doing 20mph in a 50mph zone. That being said, I'm usually the slow one (in the pool, not the car, LOL)

I have my mile swim this weekend and not sure how to approach swimming this week. I kinda felt I've hit a plateau .... trying to finish somewhere between 35 and 40 minutes. Do I train as normal? Do less? Do more?

ThinkingBee sounds like you are doing just fine. It is good when you reach the end of a length unexpectedly instead of longing for the wall to appear!

Rights hope you are ok.

Face good luck with the mile. I have no experience in this, but I would think training as normal would be the right thing. How many sessions do you have before then?

I swam this morning. A mile in 33 mins 4 secs.

Face
For running races there is the taper - where you recognise that you've done your training and just need to rest (but keep things moving) and eat well (carbo load if it's a long race).

Is is the same for swimming? You don't have the impact problem so I imagine there is no issue at all with doing your normal distance as long as you are not getting out of breath.

I would definitely NOT do more. Less will be fine, but if that makes you feel twitchy than the same will be OK as well. If it's a toss up between a swim or sleep then sleep would win hands down as you want to be well rested before the big swim.

Saturday was HARD! I really struggled in the water initially, lovely boyf laughs that i have a forlorn expression until I get into the zone, then he said I'm like a lorry, just keeps going and going, and all the while he's trying to stay in front of me, and looking to rest when he's made it to the end, and there I am, coming up right behind him. He's trying to emulate my stroke style, bless him. We will need to spend some training time together I think so I can show him what I do. We need to get more ready for the Henley Swim.

In other news, have applied for info/assessment at local masters group

they are - apparently - the top masters team in hampshire

Face do the same session again and look for ways to tweak and improve. perhaps try a harder/quicker lap every 3rd of your 100m? see if that improves the time overall?

My suggestion would be to get to know how many strokes you take in a length and what time that takes, then to try to speed up the strokes/make them go further so you reduce the stroke count per 25m
