I really need to start being healthier. I am not overweight, but am a bit flabby on parts. I am almost fully recovered from binge eating disorder and am intent on being healthy.

I have bought a new pair of running shoes. Did 2 miles today! (then ate lots of cake Blush). Will be starting tomorrow. Also want to cut down on meat intake a bit, and processed foods. So basically eat healthy and exercise more.

Will log a daily food and exercise diary. Anyone care to join me??

Are you my subconscious talking?
I will join you.

I am not overweight but will be if this continues.
I want to get rid of half a stone before Christmas. In the last 3 weeks I have lost 1lb.
I am doing ok with the eating (except weekends). But finding it hard to get into exercise that's not pilates (only just recovered from a back injury that has laid me pretty low for 2 yrs).

Off to dig out my leggings and trainer socks...

Hi Pancake! Thanks for joining and well done on the weight loss Smile Due to my BED I've just kept gaining and gaining for a while. Would ideally like to lose a stone altogether, and hopefully the first 7lbs by Xmas.
My eating habits aren't great right now, but have done a shop, bought a slow cooker and loads of healthy food so should improve.

I'm aiming for 3 miles tomorrow. I also use dd's (14) sports skipping rope a lot Grin. Hoping to tone up too.

Hi ByeBye, Monday it is then Smile

I'm starting tomorrow as it is the end of a week, my usual weigh day and 8 weeks til Xmas.

I will be running a lot more (usually manage 2.5 miles once a week). Will also get to doing yoga, Pilates, skipping rope, small weights etc, along with just generally changing my diet and creating healthier habits.

I will join in too if it's ok Grin I could do with toning up lots and losing a stone or two I have tried to diet and was going to start low carbing but I'm breastfeeding 12 week old DS and am ravenous all the time Blush and end up eating whatever I can get my hands on while DS naps.

Need to start slowly as my pelvic floor doesn't feel as though it has fully recovered yet! I'm hoping to do some walking on the treadmill or try out the cross trainer and rowing machine this week.

I'll join Monday too. I'm quitting smoking and Monday is my planned quit date.

I want to start exercising as a distraction and to really feel the benefit of stopping smoking.

Hi YoureMyWife and Panda Smile. I quit smoking 5 years ago and it was the best decision ever! Was also quite fit back then and am hoping to get into good shape again

Hi
Count me in. I need to look at my diet, it's not totally rubbish but up until 2 weeks ago I drank way to much coke and I tend to pick from 3pm onwards. I am breast feeding so I think 'oh well, I'm feeding so I will just have whatever I want' but want to get into good habits now for when she wants to stop.
My main exercise is walking, I aim to get my 10000 steps in daily. Have pulled a ligament in my foot so once that's heeled abit Im aiming to restart hip hop abs or t25.
I find I never really have time for breakfast which I need to work on but can never eat first thing.

Hi tsot and Taggy, of course you can join Smile

I was doing well today. Went for a nice 3.5km run, ate healthily until about 2 and then BOOM! Binge mode kicked in. I feel like I've failed but I'm going to pick myself up again and start fresh tomorrow.

Hope everyone has had a lovely day!

I know your pain! That's how it goes with me as well, do really well for a bit then crash and burn!

I've been good so far today, about to go and cut up salad to add on my plate this evening (so it makes me think I've eaten more!) and am going to spin class this evening. My problem will be after I get home...boredom eating!

Hi all. Smile

Well today hasn't gone as I planned.
I still had some tobacco left so I've been smoking thatSad but it will be gone tonight so will be starting fresh again tomorrow.

OTOH, I had a go on the exercise bike I've bought and could manage 15 minutes. Realizing how unfit I am has definitely given me more determination than ever to stop smoking and start exercising properly.

Well done to everyone for what you have achieved today.
Marvelous- you have done fantastic so don't feel as if you have failed. Tomorrow is a new day.

Will let you all know how I get on tomorrow.

I just wanted to crash this thread and say this was me a few years ago.

I've always suffered various eds but bed stacked on the weight. I was a size 16/18 (I'm really short and small framed) and over 13 stone.

I started eating healthily and slowly lost a bit of weight. I now run as well and I am a very healthy size, I've kicked my eating issues (as much as anyone like us can) and am running a half marathon next week and the London marathon in April.

I hope this doesn't sound like a boast, I just wanted to tell you that you have taken the first steps and that you are doing brilliantly and give you a 'on the other side' type story.

Hi Taggy, well done for today so far!!

Panda, thank you Smile Tomorrow is a new start which is good as its the beginning of a new month. 15 minutes is great! I probably couldn't do that much Blush and i think I stopped about 5 times on my run and slowed to a walk.

Hi Kitty, not boastful at all. Actually a good insight. Its great to hear your story. Do you have any tips on how to beat BED? I've suffered it a while now, and cant stop despite the best intentions. Also, any tips on how to build up stamina/running ability are great. Thank you Smile

Um, I calorie counted everything to start with. BED was the last of 3 eds, I suffered anorexia and non purging bulimia. I had lots of talk therapy to deal with the underlying issues. For me binges were part of a self harm cycle.

I posted the huge calorie counts of my favourite binge foods on my fridge. Obviously I stopped buying anything I could binge on, dh was in charge when we went shopping and he carefully questioned everything I put in the trolley (things like 'are you sure you want that?' In a very non judgemental tone) I changed my route to work as I would always stop at the garage and by sweets.

I also found that when I needed that over full, horridly uncomfortable feeling I drank pints and pints of water. Same affect but zero calories.

In terms of running I started by using the couch25k plan and they just upped my distance. I did a 10k to raise money then got a marathon space so started using a half marathon training plan. C25k was brilliant though. Zero to 5k is by far the hardest part of running. Once you've cracked that it just upping distance and overcoming those demons in your head saying you can't keep going.

I've found the thing that's similar between ed recovery and running is will power and sheer determination. It's hard but it's better the other side.

I will join.

Op would you tell us more about binge eating disorder? Is that an actual thing? The reason I ask is I binge terribly on sweet stuff. Sometimes I'm not even enjoying eating it but it's almost a compulsion I can't stop until it's gone.

Report
marvelousdcomics · 31/10/2016 19:57

Hi Horseseeker! Yes, of course I can. Both me and dd have suffered it (her after anorexia and bulimia). It is as serious as any other ED but has much less recognition. It is, as you said, a compulsion. Its as if you don't know what you're doing, you just eat and eat and eat, past feeling full/sick. Its often tied to emotional trauma and its really hard to get out of. Slowly but surely I am improving, though.

Hello !
The battery in my scales has run out but I am not going to put anymore in as I tend to weigh myself every day and it's an issue for me.

Yesterday family walk. Only 3 miles. Then did 25 mins on exercise bike.

Today woke up extra early to get 20mins on exercise bike.
Eaten the fun size pack of maltesers and a mini snickers. Naughty. But didn't eat any of the cupcakes brought into work today.

Pancake, I own no scales at all. Haven't since DD struggled with anorexia. I think BF% is a better indicator than weight.

Only 3 miles? That's great!!

The treats aren't naughty - everything in moderation Halloween Grin You should have seen how many sweets I ate tonight Blush Feeling very sickly now

Hope you've had a good day overall Smile

Even though it's only midday I'll add my things for today. I think I've had too much red meat today, but it was all in the fridge and needed using.

Breakfast was 2 poached eggs on a plain wholemeal roll. Lunch was a beef mince curry with boiled rice. Tea is going to be a corned beef stew with jacket potato. Lunch & tea contain loads of veg, and I'm planning not to eat any junk.

As for exercise, I've just done some ab exercises, skipping rope, and a quick 1 mile speed walk. I haven't mentioned this yet but I'm doing C25K, and tomorrow I'm on week 4 day 2, so I wont be running today.

Hope everyone else has had a good day so far.

Hi guys I'd love to join you too if that's ok. I need to lose 3 stone in total but would be happy with a few pounds as long as they actually stay off rather than creep back on bringing a few friends to join them!!
Xx
