Thanks london can't believe we've made it to a shiny new thread Grin. That's a lot of half marathon support!

I've lost track - who's got what this weekend?
I'm still injured Angry so can't do the races I had booked for Oct or probably Nov too. Frustrating!

Hello! Can I join?

I've been lurking for a bit on the old thread. I'm traning for my first HM at the end of November. Have only been running consistently since May/June.

running how frustrating! How is the recovery going?
Notready you will be! and Welcome

The weather for Birmingham this weekend is absolutely dire. Honestly heavy rain showers but quite warm! My boyfriend has made me a bin bag carrier bag combo for the start line (he says I look cute in it) half tempted to post you lot a photo Grin

Good luck still, yes please to photo!
Welcome Imnotready, hope the training is going well.

That's rough running, have you been able to defer any?

Welcome Imnotready that's great progress, well done.

Sounds very fetching still Grin. I'm hoping the rain will all blow over as well, but I'm not hopeful. Soggy 10k for me tomorrow.

Hello please may I join? I have signed up for a half in February. I started running in May and have done a few 10ks and am now trying to up my distance - managed 13k this morning! Happy running all

Hi all, I would love to join too! I'm doing one tomorrow and not relishing the prospect of running for 2+ hours in heavy rain. I keep checking the forecast and hoping it will change!

This will be my fourth half but my first in over three years (and my first post-DS). Definitely no time goal in mind (my others were 2:06, 1:59 and 2:03 but with much more consistent training) but will be v pleased with anything under 2:20 for this one. Am expecting it to be muddy but hopefully a bit of fun too!

Thanks for the shiny new thread! 10 mile last week went ok considering how little prep I did. I was slower than last years time but had a lovely chat on the way round when I bumped into an old friend who was also running!

Good luck for tomorrow Zig, having been completely drowned at park run this morning I sympathiser! Hope you do indeed have fun. Fingers crossed the rain lets up a bit.
Welcome Cheese, hope the training continues to go well.

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

Training is going well, I think, "accidentally" did 15k last week (instead of 14), by taking a wrong path 😳. I wasn't totaly wiped out at the end though, so I'm well chuffed about it! Another 15 tomorrow so we'll see how I feel after that!

Can I ask what do you all wear when it's pouring down? I've done short runs in light rain, but a downpour in winter must be quite a different thing!!

Report
madgingermunchkin · 15/10/2016 14:27

I have the thinnest "showerproof" fluorescent jacket, because I hate wearing layers and rapidly over heat.
I quite enjoy the rain if I'm honest, but I need something to keep my phone dry

Hello im not! I usually wear long leggings, long sleeve t shirt and fleece. But I'm nearly always too hot after a couple of miles! I find running in snow the worst as I usually get caught out with no hat. Cold face is awful!

Hello everyone - good luck tomorrow Still and Zig - think that's everyone?
Quietish week this week - gentle 5k on Wednesday and then tried a longer tempo run on Thursday but felt a bit weird at 3miles so walked home from there. Planning 7 miles tomorrow and then a lazy week with lots more pasta before the Great South next weekend. Anyone else heading to Portsmouth?

not ready like ginger I enjoy running in the rain. I usually wear normal wicking kit and it usually keeps me pretty dry - other than my feet. Main thing at this time of year is making sure you don't slip on a pile of mulchy leaves.....

I always wear a cap, keeps my glasses mostly rain free, and in the winter sometimes t-shirt with separate sleeves and a gilet. When it's really cold then long sleeved top and winter running tights, and my waterproof socks for trail runs on waterlogged paths. I like the gilet/ sleeves combo as I can take off a layer from arms or chest while keeping other bits warm!

Thank you london and emummy - weather forecast hasn't changed unfortunately but oh well. Rain and mud will just make the post-run bath even more enjoyable Wink

Good luck to everyone else with a run coming up!

Thank
You emummy hoping I won't be too stiff tomorrow as I have got to take the kids to junior Parkrun! When you run with a gilet what type do you use? Any recommended brands? Think that will be my next purchase but am also tempted to get some trail shoes. Happy running all.

Hello again all!
Glad I found the new thread. Sorry for the silence - the past month has been ridiculous with work and family health problems and my training dropped to pretty much zero (I managed 7km in the last month) so I was pretty worried about today.

But I made it!! Horizontal rain, 25mph head wind and some giant (70m, 90m, 50m) hills. I'm certainly not going to win any speed records but did it in 2hrs 36 which I'm super-happy about (last but I don't care!!) SmileSmileSmile

How is everyone else doing? Any more runs coming up?

emummy · 15/10/2016 19:53

I have a Gore windstopper, quite expensive so I waited till I got one on sale! There are quite a few available though; I do like my gilet, I think it is one of my best bits of clothing.

Well done veterinari that is amazing considering how little you have run- you must have stored your fitness!

Thanks still and chutney - the recovery is unfortunately going very slowly. I could defer one race entry (the marathon) but none of the others, sadly. Most organisers don't let you do it these days, apparently! I don't want to think about the wasted sorry fees...argh!

As for running in the wet, I usually just wear my usual wicking t shirt and capris. A long sleeved wicking top if it's cold. I do have a few running waterproofs, but I can only wear them if it's properly cold (ie snow) or if I'm running up very exposed hills, otherwise I ooze with sweat. Nice!
I have a Gore windproof which I love, too, but not in rain so much.

Nice work, veterinari - mega well done, and there is NO shame in being last. You're still lapping everyone on the couch, as they say!

Good luck to all those running tomorrow.
