Wheezing, struggling to breathe, full of mucous after exercise

Okay, so I'm 31. I have exercise. I haven't done any since I was about 13.
I've decided I really should. So I tried to run. I have done 3 2k runs, and each time I've felt exactly the same afterwards.
I can't catch my breath, my chest burns, my throat feels full of mucous, my chest is rattling and wheezing.
It lasts a few hours. I'm currently sat here wheezing, and I've been home 40 minutes.
Will this get any better? If so, when?! What do I need to do? It's seriously putting me off, as I can't do anything for ages after I've run. I have 3 children, and I'm on my own. This is not conducive to looking after small people!!!

Sure you don't have asthma? It might be worth getting a check up with your GP before you do any more exercise.

I'm fairly sure I'm not. It isn't something that's ever been queried. I've done some peak flow measurements over the years, and I don't think my score has been below 450.

Sounds to me like you're pushing yourself too far too early and your body's just not use to it! Try starting off by walking for intervals or better still download Coach to 5k, a proper schedule where you can build up slowly and give your body time to adjust.

My peak flow is between 450 and 500 and I am five food two. I have moderate asthma. I also have the symptoms you describe. Go to the doctor

This happened to DS. It got better (& stopped happening) when he got more regular exercise! Even just walking around a bit more. He was completely sedentary 23.2 hrs a day with a 0.4 hr hard run, and even that only every other day, and virtually no other activity. DS is trying to do something daily, now.

I'm still wheezing. I have done the other 2 runs at 9pm, and gone to bed by 11ish. Been okay the next day. It's been 6 fecking hours and my chest is still tight, I'm rattling, and wheezing! My boyfriend sat next to me tonight and was rather concerned at the noises I am making!
GP time? (adds to list of reasons to see GP. Will ask for triple appt!)

I used to wheeze a lot after and during exercise so the go prescribed a blue inhaler. I don't have asthma and as my fitness improved I started to use it less and less
