Hi everyone

I'm a mum to three young children and I currently work part time in an office. Since I had my third baby last year, I've done a lot of soul searching, worked on my health and I've learned a lot that I think could help women in my community.

I am looking to set up a health/wellbeing/fitness business, but with a different slant. Rather than focussing on weight loss, dropping dress sizes, before/after pics and blasting fat into submission, I want to be about self care, positive body image, mental well being, sustainable eating and exercising habits. I guess my primary focus will be on women/mothers as that is what I'm passionate about. The basis would be personal training and group exercise with additional focus on the self care aspect etc.

So my question - is this different approach something you would be interested in? If yes, what appeals to you and if no, what puts you off?

Looking for all types of constructive feedback - it's much appreciated!

Thank you.

Personally I couldn't state how strongly this wouldn't be for me. BUT I can see it being of interest for some. What qualifications do you have in these areas?

Sorry - missed the last question. It sounds a bit hippyish/faddy for me. Also if you're not qualified (don't know if you are, but you haven't mentioned it) it doesn't seem a good idea. You could do more harm than good. Also it seems a very wide reaching area for one person to cover properly.

Apologies. This is in the very initial idea stages!! My intention is to qualify as a personal trainer with additional certification in the required areas.

Appreciate your honest opinion!

I would ask whether you're looking at babies / young children coming with their mothers as part of the session or not. That will impact on the potential users of your service as whichever way you go, some people will be looking for that and others will be put off.

Cost may also be a factor for some mothers still on maternity leave or on reduced hours, which may impact on where you work - would you go to a client's house or book a room at a gym / leisure centre for example?

I have a personal training. My main goal is weight loss but she also deals with all the other things you mention really. I exercise with her twice a week. She has done me programs for the other days. I log all my food on my fitness pal so she can make suggestions about adjustments that will be healthier. She will measure me as well as weighing me and working out body fat and muscle and applaud a difference in measurements, loss of body fat, increase in muscle even if the scales don't show a massive difference. We discuss all aspects of health and well being really. So for me, I wouldn't need something like you are thinking of offering as a good personal trainer should cover most of that anyway.
