I did my first C25K training 'run' last night and it nearly killed me Blush. My knees objected strongly but I ploughed on...sort of.

2nd run tomorrow - how do I survive it?

Hurrah! Welcome to the club Grin

Just keep ploughing on! Remember you can repeat runs as often as you need to in order to take the program at your own pace.

Also, don't worry about your speed at this point, there is time for that later. Just focus on keeping going, as long as your are still doing the running motion (as in not walking) you are getting the benefits and will slowly be able to pick the speed up.

Good luck and god speed you!!

At some points I was more speed walking than running (whilst wishing I had oxygen and somewhere to lie down) but did about 3.5 miles. Lovely night for it too.

Roll on tomorrow Grin.

Fantastic job! I know it seems implausible now, but I promise in a few weeks you will find yourself strangely enjoying and even looking forward to your runs...I know it sounds crazy, but as your body gets used to the motion and realised there is a lovely endorphine high on the way, it really does get more enjoyable Grin

I'm at week 6 (though it took me 4 months to get there!) and I ran for 20 minutes without stopping on Saturday. The 1 minute runs nearly killed me at first so stick with it! It's so satisfying when you can literally see your fitness increasing. It's a totally doable plan and so worth it.

Oh me too! I did my first one on Monday, planning next one tonight.

Fitness is ok but terrible shin pain. My legs felt like they were turning to jelly! I hope that will pass as I get stronger!

The sore shins do get better! Keep going

That's reassuring. Thanks Lady

It is roasting here and I get to go and run and wobble about while half the town is out enjoying a beautiful evening. What a picture I shall be fat, hot and barely able to breathe.

Why on earth did I agree to this?! Grin

Can I join? I need to lose half a stone and get fit. Any recommendations? Having a walk tomorrow to scout about a route

Can I join too? Did my first session today, the first one minute 'run' was the worst but then not too terrible. But got a bit of pain in my shins towards the end.
Went with my friend and her adult daughter who is half our age but she couldn't do the full minute of each run which made me think I must have some reserve of fitness somewhere!
Next session planned for Sunday, just hope I don't ache too much tomorrow!

I did run 2 of week 2 tonight. Did it but found it the hardest yet. My ad I muscles really hurt and I don't know how the hell I will do the race for life I have signed up for on 10th July.

MrsP that's ambitious! Not impossible but you will really need to run every other day I think and not miss any.

I was so unfit when I started running that I physically threw up on the second "run" section. And when I got home I collapsed in the garden, dizzy and sweaty.

But I kept it up and the first time I ran for 10 minutes it felt like a huge achievement. Now I run marathons, and rarely go a day without running at least 5k.

The hardest bit, honestly, is getting off the couch and doing what you're doing now. Getting from 0 to 5k is the tough bit. Seriously, once you can run for 30 mins you can run for 60 and do a 10k. And once you can do 10k it's easy to train for a half. Going from a half to a full marathon is tough, but nowhere near as hard as getting to running for 10 minutes straight in the first place.

Good luck!

Can I join? I ran twice this week and will go out tonight. I love it.

Ooh can I join too? Did W1D2 today.

I've followed the programme before about 5 years ago with some success but I've never managed to actually run 5k Blush

I started C25k a year ago. To inspire you all, after completing the program I carried on running 3 times a week and lost 3 stone, 3 stone!!

I still run now, just been out this morning and done 8.5k with hills!

This is from being a total non-runner puffing panting out of shape blob.

Keep going it really is worth it and the runs get easier as you go along as your bodies get used to it.

There's a long running thread here in exercise which was very supportive I found.

I've started thinking about C25k. Maybe you'll inspire me to action. I've just started swimming again. 3rd time today. Mmmm

Hi, can I join?

I need a LOT of support/help. I did the first week 3 run today and am trying to make myself not give up, but really I just want to cry because it is so incredibly hard.

I have never ever found pleasure or a 'high' from exercise. Is there just something wrong with me? Why is it all incredibly unpleasant?

Running that pretty much describes me although I didn't throw up. I'm fighting onwards though.

I went for a swim yesterday and will run again tomorrow - I must be daft!

I am overweight and majorly unfit but thankfully my stamina is good. I he went yet managed more than 3 one minute runs in a session BlushBlush.

Hi!! I've just done week 2 run 2 tonight and weirdly found it slightly more enjoyable than the previous runs!! This is the first time I've finished a run and not been in pain, I ache but don't feel I've actually injured myself for once! I don't think I realised quite how unhealthy I was until I started trying to run!

MrsPatrickDempsey · 05/06/2016 21:23

Week 2 done! Not enjoying particularly at the moment but have stuck to the plan and completed it without stopping. Struggled tonight but think I paced too fast (trying to keep up with daughter). When does it get easier?

StarlightMcKenzee · 06/06/2016 10:30

Week 3 run 2. I did it in my hallway. Couldn't bear to go outside in the heat. I'll probably have to do several weeks at this level though.

And also, I want to punch Emma for saying 'don't know about you but I always feel good after a really hard run'. Stupid smug bint. I don't. I feel tired and cross and pissed off that it is so hard.

The day I do a 'run' and don't feel like I want to die is something I'm looking forward to.

Actually the day I actually run will be a huge achievement!

Today I ran slower and did a new route. It was a beautiful day and I was trying to focus on my surroundings rather than the run (not that you can call it that as I was going at snails pace). But I have never run as far as I have today so gonna keep at it.

Report
patientzero · 06/06/2016 22:43

Week 1 finished. It was still hideous but I managed to go further and faster than last time despite the heat so I'm pleased with that!
