What do you carry on you when running?

I am doing a local 10k soon and just wandered what you more experienced runners recommend I carry on me? Usually I just take my phone, it has my music on and a running app. I don't know whether to bother taking this though as I will stop when run is over so no need to count the miles. Also should I bother with a water bottle?
TIA X

I bring keys (if DP out), phone (for radio) and a watch.

I couldn't run with water, too heavy! Plus I think they usually hand out water during the course at designated water stations, so that will save you carrying it Smile

If you don't usually carry water when running then I wouldn't bother. I can do 10k in cold weather without water but at this time of year I need water. If there is a water stop in the race I won't take any, but if not I take my own.

If I'm running myself I usually have phone and keys.

Oh and good luck!

Thank you! It's in 3 weeks so will possibly need a water bottle on the way round, although I don't usually bother.

Thank you all Smile

I have my keys, Garmin watch and water.

lonoxo are those the watches that tell you distance/time/calories burnt? are they worth it? I thought about buying one the other week but didn't know if it was a silly indulgence!

Yes, and mine has a heart rate monitor, though I'm not sure how accurate it. Mine was a gift so I can't comment on whether it was 'worth it' but it has definitely helped with my training. Before I was guessing at distances and sometimes a route will feel longer in my head than it actually was. It's really useful in building up mileage as I won't quit until I see that distance on my watch. I'm going to use try the Intervals function tonight. I don't have an app on my phone for running, too much of a security risk IMO.

Yes that's what I worry about, getting it pinched or it falling out my pocket (that's probably more likely to be honest)

i always run with my phone. I use it for Strava - but it's useful for meeting up with others after the race ifyou get separated. I also use it when running around the streets at home - just in case.

I take water on more than 5K runs- especially in warm weather. I have a r unning belt which holds a small bottle of water.

This is like mine fleetfoot bag

I carry my phone, for tracking the route I do and occasionally for music (although keep in mind that most organised runs say no headphones), and a door key. I keep them in this .

As this run is not on open roads I think we can wear headphones but I will reread my pack in case it says otherwise! X

Organised events usually have someone passing out water, at 1/2 or 1/3+2/3 points. I think I would be fine to not carry my own water.

I hide my keys near the house & try to remember to carry a very small phone.

Yes I emailed them, water is available at key points of the run and headphones are allowed provided we can still hear aafety announcements Smile

I have my Garmin watch (totally worth it - the phone apps are fairly inaccurate!) and my car key if I'm in the car. I just take the key itself off and tie it to the drawstring inside my shorts. I'm OCD about lipbalm so I always have one of those as well, just in my shorts pocket.

Water is provided in races so I never carry a bottle. If I'm doing a long training run, I make it loops so I can pass my house, where I will have left water bottles in the garden.

Forgot, I often have a heart rate monitor that doubles as a watch.
I use the HRM to keep steady effort & to get to recovery pace between intervals.

At a formal event I don't think I would need to carry anything but car or bike keys.

I just take my phone for music/Strava, and door keys. I never take water. I find it really irritating to hold anything whilst running.

When out for a run I just carry my phone and headphones, plus my insulin pump and some jelly babies (I'm diabetic). If going over 5k I'll take some water and my blood glucose monitor.
For a race I just have my pump, monitor and jelly babies on me. Most of the races I've entered over the last few years have banned headphones and provide water.

Yes I've noticed thus recently. Annoying! I need my Archers Omnibus music more than water when I run! They say it's to do with safety so you can hear messages on the PA or something. Annoying.
