Tight hamstrings after increased exercise

As I have had some time off recently, I've had more frequent engagement with the gym than usual (going every second day or so In the past fortnight). I've done a mixture of weights, cardio and group classes. Somewhere along the line, I've obviously overdone it or not done enough stretching as for the past three days I've had hideously tight hamstrings, the sort that makes walking difficult and makes me reluctant to pick stuff up off the floor. I've tried: stretches including stretching routines from You Tube, light swimming, foam rolling the muscles, some yoga moves, rest, brisk walking, pretty much everything I can think.

The thing is, three days later there seems to be no improvement at all. I normally have good flexibility in my hamstrings (former runner so I know how to look after them usually) but it is very unusual for me to get this at all, and even stranger to see no improvement over three days. Does anyone have any ideas I could try? Obviously if it continues I will book a physio appointment in a few days but I'd really like to sort it without paying a physio bill if I can. Thanks for any ideas, suggestions, links, videos...

You will have to make an account or log into FB to view this page, but it's worth it!

I'm new to running and have suffered with stiff legs - I literally tried this this morning as soon as I got in and voila! all better!!

I have a problem with my left hamstring. Its tight and uncomfortable, I get cramp in it easily and it takes ages to dissipate, and I find some exercise excruciating. What helps? Really good hydration - drinking plenty of water before, during and after exercise. And also taking a multi-vitamin/mineral containing magnesium as a deficit of this can make muscle cramps worse. HTH.
