I've had Karrimors that have been fine.

It depends on what suits your feet! My feet are fussy and awkward, so trying on isn't optional.

I'm looking for this too at the mo. I rarely go to the shops and do everything online - I'm presuming I'll need to actually set foot in a shop to get them properly fitted? Are there any stores to be recommended or avoided?

You'll need to try on a lot. Go Outdoors, Blacks, Mountain Whorehouse, Cotswold thingy, whatever. It depends how good the assistant is.

Don't forget to wear a couple of pairs of socks when you try them on. They'll probably have a little hill in the shop; Try sliding your toes forward to hit the toe cap when going downhill. (They shouldn't)

And if the only ones you find that make your feet feel like they're in heaven are really costly, buy them anyway. It's the one bit of kit that has to be perfect.
