Fitbit confusion

Does anyone have a Fitbit flex?

Getting a bit confused by their calories bit. Why is it telling me calories burnt when I clearly haven't burnt that many - does anyone know how to reset it, or something?

For instance, I've apparently burnt 560 calories today. I've only just woken up!

Yesterday I burnt almost 2000, but I was home all day so that isn't accurate either.

Where am I going wrong?!

No answer but watching with interest as I have the same question. Woke up this morning to found i'd burnt 530 calories! Which totally means a fry up for breakfast now

The Fitbit day starts at one second after midnight. You burn calories lying in bed asleep, not many less than sitting up watching TV.

Oh, I got a flex for Christmas too. I think it shows resting calories not just active, i.e. the calories your body uses to maintain itself. I am having some trouble with the adjusting the sleep logs as it keeps showing error, but have contacted them for help. Have you looked on their help section/Fitbit forum? Lots of tips there.

I think it's to with your body's basal (??) rate.....is that the right word?

So you do burn calories by just being alive, even if you spend the day slobbed on the sofa you burn calories. That's why they say the average woman can eat between 1500-2000 calories depending on the individual without putting on weight.

So yes you may have only just woken up but your body has burnt x calories since midnight.

Ah I see Simon, so I have actually burnt that many calories already today, it is accurate?

What everyone else said. The 2000 calories you burned yesterday were the calories you burn every day just to stay alive which is why women can eat 1500-2000 calories a day. So you would kind of break even if that makes sense. I always found it good to sync mine with my fitness pal recording what went into my mouth as well.

I don't think it's ever going to be 100% accurate as it's quite generic but if you've added your weight in it should be fairly close. I think it over estimates calories burned via exercise.

Thanks everyone, that makes much more sense now!
