What does your usual workout week consist of?

Just joined a health club. Used to be a runner but am soooooo bored of pounding pavements the same old route & realised I actually really enjoy classes - turn up and someone tells me what to do!

So I just wondered what everyone's workout week looks like? So far I've done 2 spinning classes last week, and this week I'm planning 2 spins, 1 body pump and a swim.

Does everyone stick to the same classes, or try loads of different classes? I don't want to appear a class "whore" by swapping and changing all the time, but I think I just need variation in order to keep me motivated....

I do a mix of classes 3-4 times a week as well as some running. My classes are body combat, body pump and circuits - thinking of giving insanity a go too.

Thanks, can I be really amateur and ask what exactly body pump entails? Signed up to class but no idea what I'll be doing

I swim 1km 4-5 times a week, early morning and then 3-4 spin

Cycling at weekends and a fair bit of walking

I do swimming, body pump, RPM, body step, body attack and body balance. I run on Sundays and have Saturdays off. I have a bit of an addiction. And I like to get my money's worth from my gym membership. At the moment I have a sprained ankle and am going crazy having to take things easy.

I do Zumba, body pump and powerhoop.

Body pump is using a bar with weights on and each track targets a specific muscle group e.g. Legs, back, biceps, triceps, etc. You add on/ take off weights for each track too but the instructor should give you guidance on weights to use.

Powerhoop is exercising using a weighted hoop.

I don't have a gym membership. I'd love one but too ££ sadly.

I work out every day. I do 2 long runs and 2 short runs a week, lift weights 4 or 5 times a week and do HIIT (high intensity interval training) five times a week.

I also cycle and walk lots.

Wow! I'm seriously impressed with these workout schedules! Thanks for the info / ideas, I think I need to up my game from my 2-3 classes per wk!

Don't feel pressured to do more than you want to do! Try a few classes to see what you enjoy, and please don't worry about being new, or not knowing what you are doing. I was too scared to go into the studio for ages, thinking everyone would be better than me, but seriously that is not the case and everyone is supportive and helpful. Tell the instructor if you haven't done the activity before. Do what you can manage. I only work part time, so no problem finding gym time.

I do Crossfit to complement my trail running. I love it- as you say , you just show up and someone else has figured out the programming.

Running... Running....... Running and maybe some running. Anything up to about 60 miles a week. Love it

A short run (5-6k), a medium run (8-10k) and a long run (12k+) plus 3 x circuit sessions with weights and maybe a spin class thrown in if I feel energetic!

I run, every day at least 50 miles a week usually. Would like to do other exercise but I only like exercising outside and nothing comes close to the endorphins I get from running.

I lift heavy weight 4x per week and see cardio as a bonus/add on and I try and do cardio once a week ie a run or circuits class.

I swim once a week and do two classes - body pump and body balance. I'd ideally like to do one or two more but with work kids etc it's a manageable amount at the moment. I love the classes I do and never miss a week. The les mills classes change the routines every couple of months so you aren't always doing same thing.

I do 3 classes a week (Body Balance, Body Pump and Spin), one weight training session in the gym and try to run at least once as well. A year ago it was just 2 or 3 workouts a week but I'm addicted now.

3 kickboxing sessions a week, 2-3 in the gym (mostly heavy weights, bit of HIIT), 1-2 hot yoga sessions and maybe a swim.

Two bike rides a week, average total 35 miles
2-3 fast walks, about hour each.
I need to do more, weight creeping on a bit.

Id like to do Metafit class on a sat morning, long run (well to me it is long, but most seasoned runners would call it medium) of about 5-6 miles on a Sun afternoon, Kettlebells class on Tuesday evening and Insanity on a Thursday evening. However in reality I manage a couple of the above a week.

Id like to do more, but I just dont have the time. I have plans once the DCs are older to exercise more.

A typical week for me is:

Monday - bike ride c. 30km
Tuesday - run 5km but wanting to add more time/distance
Wednesday - Insanity class
Thursday - bike ride c.30km sometimes up to 50km if I've got time
Friday - rest
Saturday - Insanity class
Sunday - either a rest day or run/bike ride depending how much time & energy I've got!

I love my insanity classes & bike rides but the running is more for fitness / weight loss purposes.

I try to do 3 bootcamp classes (mix of cardio , weightlifting, plyometric, strength & conditioning), one boxercise and 2-3 runs. One run is to/from an evening bootcamp so it slots in well, other two runs are 5/8km so not very long. I don't really like running but it's an efficient cake earner Grin

Plus some short runs and usually long walks at weekends.

On an average week I'm aiming for:-

  • Two sprint sessions - intervals on the track and sometimes plyometrics / conditioning afterwards
  • One longer interval session
  • One or two strength sessions - Olympic / explosive lifts. Progressively heavy during winter, longer lighter sessions during summer
  • One longish run

Then I have a rest day or do some yoga / Pilates / boxing or just foam roller. But every so often I take a week off completely if I'm feeling like I might be overtraining. It seems to do me good.

Where do you all find the time? I'd love to do more but working full time and no chance of exercising at lunchtimes. How do you fit it in?
