C25k - can I do it with my 7-year-old DS?

Hi,

Will be starting my C25k next week when I (hopefully) recover from my hamstring injury. MyDS is very keen to do it with me and I'd love him to. He's quite fit as he regularly plays football and basketball. Has anybody done it?

(Braces herself for child-abuse-type comments).

Easily. I tried it several years ago but gave up on about week 4 when I got pregnant (I was too unfit starting out to be trying to build new fitness that way in early pregnancy) ... should do it again I suppose [shudder]

My 7 yo DS would run rings around me (as would my 9 yo DD) - they both run 5 or 6 laps of the football pitch twice a week as warm up for football training and I couldn't even run one lap...

Yes, I put ds(8) and dh through it at the same time Smile. Ds really likes going to parkrun now.

I'd say so yes. I have two seven year olds but did C25K by myself over a slightly longer period than nine weeks, ahem. Both of mine regularly do 2k junior parkruns, DS has done 5k parkruns with me with no trouble whatsoever. I've no doubt DD would do had she done the C25K with me.

It ramps up so well I'm sure he'll be fine, the key thing is that he's keen.

I'm bracing myself for parkrun next Saturday after hauling a sobbing DS around last time. I must have looked like an awful mum, but he was only crying because I'd told him off for complaining that I was too slow. Apparently it was embarrassing to be so near the back Grin. aside from that experience I love running with the family.
