Thanks everyone for your kind words! MrsSPM I was aiming for half an hour faster before my injury, but hey ho, next time maybe!

Family I'm loving the sound of your boggy run, keeps your feet cool too!

lagoon I ran 5k for 2 years before increasing and the only reason I increased was to run a charity 10k. And now I find 10 miles normal. It will creep up on you one day and you will marvel when you get home and realise what you've done! My tip is to slow down, then you can increase the distance.

Nice work ActiongirlWink

I hope your knee is better soon (please dont run too much on it if it hurts-I'm worried you'll make it worse)

12.08 from me

Action thanks for starting the new thread and Flowers for your HM, excellent! Especially with all the pain you suffered. The pain in your other knee could well have been due to extra pressure you put on it during the race. Please do as Suzanne suggests and don't run until your knee stops hurting - you should rest after a HM anyway, pain or no pain! I'm sure you will be ready for a marathon next year, but you need some recovery right now.
Mrs SPM was it your first 5k?? Brilliant to do it under 30 minutes. The most important thing is that you enjoyed it.
Poppy glad you are feeling a lot better now.
Holmes your 3 sessions sound perfect for HM training. How long are you long runs?
5.6 easy run today in the sunshine with the dog.
2333.18
I think we've beaten March's total??

Yes I am planning to rest Grin and am cancelling the grit plyo class I was booked on tomorrow. I did go to pilates this morning, but my instructor was v understanding as he ran the VMLM yesterday!

The pain I had is almost certainly ITB and quad tension, after all I had hardly run for five weeks so everything was a bit soft, it has eased off significantly to the extent I can run down the stairs whereas yesterday I couldn't even walk down them, which tells me I did the right thing carrying on, even though I didn't enjoy it one little bit. I will continue to do my physio exercises, but I'm already thinking about a little run later in the week Grin

Is it warm in France anglaise? Cold in Hampshire and the HM was super chilly yesterday.

Action how did your instructor get on in the VLM yesterday? I'm surprised they were even capable of taking a pilates class today!
Its a few degrees warmer here generally. Its very sunny today but the wind is strong and cold, but on sheltered footpaths it was perfect.
The conditions yesterday for your race must have been quite good if it was on the chilly side? Were you OK or too cold? I always race in just the club shirt and shorts, regardless of the weather, even in the middle of winter.

Marking my place! Thanks Anglaise it was my first race in 3 years, and I had totally forgotten how warm I get, I had way too many layers on,it all came back to me after the 1st mile!!!

Hope the knee mends up for you Action

Oh good, Anglaise - glad to hear my plan sounds ok. My latest longer run was 8k and this week's will be 10. I have run almost HM distance before, but not for a couple of years, and until the last couple of weeks I hadn't done more than about 6k for a good while. Hopefully I will cope with the 2k increases!
It should be a lovely trail HM so I really hope I manage to get there. It's round Coniston Water in the Lakes.

What other races have you all got planned?

Hello shiny new thread!

Well done emummy, remember the Piper, never know whether you want to smile or strangle him Wink. Well done also Action especially for carrying on with the knee pain, take it easy.

I am a broken women today, bit of a daze. Mountain Marathon was nothing short of Epic. 31 miles over 2 days, 16 Sat, 15 Sun. 2400m of ascent. Despite all of your lovely nice forecast wishes, the weather gods brought hail storms on the Saturday and all out blizzard conditions on the Sunday. By the end I was pretty much full on hypothermic, as were many others. About a third didn't even start it, and about the same again didn't finish.

On saying that it was great fun, a fantastic atmosphere and lovely people with a passion for running and the outdoors. Ceilidh on the Saturday night kept us warm and taking my warmer sleeping bag was a very wise choice.

Despite all this we managed 7th overall for our course (would have been 4th but made a navigational error on day 2 that cost us 30mins) and we came in 1st Female team Grin My first ever podium finish and first ever trophy. So all in I'm broken but also very very happy Smile.

Runtothehills so glad you posted, was starting to think you might be lost in the mountains somewhere! Flowers Huge congratulations, what an achievement - it can't have been an easy race to do at all, given the ascent you had and the freezing cold weather! You and your team must be so proud. I hope you feel a little less 'broken' soon, lots of rest and relaxation in order this week.

Well done on all runs, April is busier than march!!

I'm impressed Actiongirl1978, that's some serious dedication to run through pain from such an early point!!! Well done!

Run to the hills, you are epic.
Half marathoners, marathoners, and everyone, what running this weekend! I didn't run all weekend as she was working and away so I had the kids. I ran 7 miles today though, and did my fastest 5 k as part of the race, mostly because a big staffie came hurtling out a farmhouse at me and my own wimpy dog pegged it, so I sped up massively. 2371.18

Amazing stories on the last thread and here.

I drank too much Saturday night (don't know what happened, I don't really drink much but we had friends round for 'an early tea with kids' and they didn't leave until 10pm!), so didn't do my Sunday run, so I've been out for 5.3 miles tonight though so made up for it. I just did it in under an hour, the first time ever I've been trying to push myself a bit faster, so even though it was slow, it gives me a frame of reference for my 10k and has given me a bit of confidence too.

So total 2736.48

Deliaskis · 27/04/2015 21:37

Poppy no, massive typo that has us unrealistically running several hundred extra miles!

Should be 2376.48

Wow runtothehills you are amaze balls!!!

Sounds like a brilliant weekend though, I bet you feel really healthy despite the broken body feeling Grin I think you get to eat well all week on that basis!

Thanks cinnamon I'm beginning to realise that may have been the case. My mind seems to have snapshots of some of the worst points and I keep going back to them in my mind. However I've just been looking at the race schedule pages in runners world looking for my next chance - and let's face it, it won't take much to beat my HM PB!

phlebas scary dogs have that impact on me too!

anglaise my pilates instructor is also my PT and as such has a scary underlying level of fitness... He did it in 4.51 and our class this morning was full of lovely running stretches Grin he was a bit achy but I reckon I felt worse than him!

Oh and another top tip from me.. Don't try to cry and run. I burst into tears at 8 miles, but rapidly realised crying tightens your windpipes and prevents effective running!

Pain + imminent period + 13 mile race = very emotional woman

I'm with you there action When I came in after day 2 and discovered I hadn't packed my spare trainers and had to put back on my wet cold ones it was a step too far and burst into tears!! Did get lots of sympathy from very attractive Sweedish elite runner though, so was perhaps worth it Grin Grin Grin

Runtothehills - I was about to put a shout out for you but thought you might be resting and also I would appear overly chummy as my dad would say. But WOW! Blizzard conditions make a good story but that is pretty hardcore!! Is it too soon to ask same time next year?

runtothehills that is awesome! Huge congratulations on completing it at all let alone getting a podium place Flowers Flowers . You must be on such a high ( well, once your body temp returned to normal Grin ) . I was wondering how you'd got on.

holmes Coniston sounds lovely. Is there a full marathon going on there as well? I'm sure one of our parkrunners was talking about doing his first marathon round a lovely scenic lake in the Lake District. He was hoping the view might take his mind off the pain!
