So far have done 5 and 10ks. For my last 10k. I was doing around 25 to 30k a week, including intervals and fartlek in that, over 3 runs. Have a half marathon planned for next year, so the mileage will go down over winter, concentrating on building strength and stamina, then go up from around Feb onwards.i tend to do stuff I've read in magazines or books, so not an expert!

Mitchy1nge · 21/10/2014 20:08

thanks emummy :)

will you run more frequently or increase the length of (some of?) your 3 runs?

I recently did a half marathon. My training was along the lines of double the distance (sometimes a bit under, sometimes a bit over) each week, including a long run (16-18k) at the weekend, and a mid-week intervals session.

I'm all over the place with my running..... Got a half marathon to train for and then the full marathon

Zero motivation or energy at present!

Manage about 8-10 miles a week at present Blush

thanks pootle

I go with double the distance too, noooo idea how sound it is but I guess as long as your long runs are long enough it should be ok even if your weekly volume varies a bit

am just endlessly fascinated by this sort of thing, probably need a life

I'd normally run about 20-25 miles a week; longest distance I've done in "racing" is half marathon. Currently benched with mysterious swollen toe...

good luck 26.2! panic will be your motivating factor soon enough!

I know someone who got round VMLM last year mainly on hula-hooping classes and the occasional 5k on a treadmill, in under 5 hours too! Envy

I'm aiming to do my first 10k in Feb. I've been running 10-12 miles a week, but this week so far I did 4 on Monday and 5 today.

I'm aiming to increase my mileage up to 7 miles then look at speeding up...

I am a great follower of plans - usually the Cool Running ones - as they give me confidence that if I follow the plan it will all come right on the day Smile. I have been a bit lax lately and relying too much on residual fitness but am trying to follow the last 6 weeks of a beginners' HM plan to get me ready for my next one, just to get me out on a regular basis now that the nights are drawing in.

Me too but I've given up in-the-week-wine to try and lose weight!

I'm a bit nervous but I need something to aim for to keep me motivated!

Well I'm signed up for Silverstone half marathon in March.... 3 times round the Grand Prix track lol. At least the family will come along happily for that one!

For vlm I'm going to panic BIG time!! I got a ballot place, first time trying.. You won't get a place they said!!

I wish I could follow plans, I paid for a great one from TrainingPeaks last year but I don't really know what happens Confused I never have a problem getting out and running each day, and it would be every day if my body was up to it but 5x is plenty, but I always end up doing my own thing instead

it's a massive incentive isn't it, having something to aim for!

Have you got a run coming up Mitchy?

Report
Mitchy1nge · 21/10/2014 21:06

a half at the end of November which I hope to get round with 25-30 miles a week

am a bit neurotic about imagined injury if I exceed 30 miles a week but that's in my mind I think (although based on experience too)

I 'race' up to half marathon, and work up my distance to do the 13 miles on my long run 2 weeks before, and that week I'd do a 5 and 10km as my other runs. I also cycle and swim, so thats 6 days a week of training.

That said, I have a half in 2 weeks (delayed from the spring as the course was flooded) which I have not done enough distance for, and am a bit freaked out about. Though I'm much fitter than when I did my first.

Report
Mitchy1nge · 21/10/2014 21:21

I suppose other training helps a lot. I did more cycling when I couldn't run much and also rowing, and I still walk at least 15 extra miles a week. They all support one another I think.

yep, bloody sore. It's been x-rayed, bloods taken, no-one really know what's wrong with it

how long has it been like that for? did it start suddenly? it sounds absolutely awful! I hope it gets better soon

about a week; doc gave me antibiotics, didn't work. Anti inflammatories, working a bit. Wondering when I can run again Sad

rhetorician - it's not gout is it? I was reading up on it recently (my brother was diagnosed with it) and as it is so unusual in women it is often overlooked.

CMOT - you will be fine. I PB'd at the last HM I ran, despite having done very little training for it. I hope your HM goes well.

26.2 - I used the cool running 20 week marathon plan last year. I missed a couple of runs through illness, including one of the long runs, but it got me round (which was all I wanted). There are a couple of people on the Runners' thread who have done the Silverstone HM if you need any advice about the course etc

M1tchy - if you can do 10 miles a couple of weeks before your HM you should be fine on the day.

Report
rhetorician · 22/10/2014 09:29

yes, the gout option has been raised, but blood tests didn't suggest that - although apparently even blood tests can be inconclusive. The cycle of it suggests that quite strongly - e.g. it's much much better - duration of attack about a week. Bah

thanks ohone :)

how frustrating not to know what's going on rhetorician Confused is gout always recurrent or could this just be a random mystery attack
