Best trainers for running?

I'm new to this, I've run quite a bit in the past, but never in any dedicated fashion! Looking for some new trainers to get now the weathers getting nicer so I'll be out more. Is it worth investing in an expensive pair? Or even going to a shop and having my 'gait' monitored or whatever it is they do! Do people find cheapish ones ok? I really want a good pair, but don't want to spend so much.

If you go and have your gait analysed you can pay for some insoles, and then use these in a cheaper pair of trainers. I went to the Sweatshop in Teddington for this. Insoles cost me £45. Then I bought a pair of Brooks Ghosts which cost £100

... sorry, meant to say you can buy running trainers for considerably less than that though

I had my gait analyzed and bought the trainers that work best with my gait - Brooks Adrenaline. They literally changed my running.

BIWI I was just going to recommend Brooks Ghost too! I had my gait analyzed a few years back after developing some shin splints. I love the Brooks Ghost and am on my third pair.

Depends how far and how often you are running. You might be able to get away with a cheap pair if you're just doing 5k a few times a week. I had some cheapo Nikes that were fine until I started running more than 5 miles, then my ankles started killing me so I got a gait analysis and got some Brooks Adrenaline.

There isn't a 'best' brand, different shoes suit different feet.

Yes, go to a running shop and get your gait analysed and properly fitted trainers. It usually makes the difference between thinking you can't run and being able to run.

'Just' 5K?! That's 3 miles - it's a lot of running, especially three times a week - you really do need proper running shoes for that.
