In terms of upper body strength, you need it on the Berlin Walls and the monkey bars (fell off at the first handle), climbing wall
Good luck. It is great fun.

My dsis is doing it, I'm too scared there are frogmen present

I would love to sign up but we've just moved abroad, but it's on my list to do asap.
Have you done anything similar? I do boot camp and they prepared us really well for the events I've done so far (instructors helped organise the event) with sprints up hills, lots of press ups, lots of jumping.
I tried a pull up the other day. I moved 1 inch so I can't do monkey bars - am very tempted to get a pull up bar, but managed the other races with jumping and pulling myself up and over stuff.
