5k to 10k in 6 weeks?

I'm a recent c25k graduate and am running 5k 3 x a week. I have done 2 park runs so far at 38 min and 36 min.

My friend ( who runs marathons) wants us to enter a 10k in 6 weeks time. I've had a look online at training schedules by they all are 4-5 x a week and I can only do 3 runs a week.

Any advice on how I can prepare?

I did it!

Sitting herewith a medal round my neck and my face looks like
this>>> grin

What's even more amazing is that I enjoyed it, ran round waving at little kids and generally had fun!

All that training paid off, i beat all my PBs too.did 5k in 32min, 8k in 50. I think I did the 10k in 1.13 but final times published tomorrow.

So happy. Thank you all for all your great advice and encouragement.

I'm a c25k graduate and I'm now doing a bridge to 10k using an app and it is a 6 weeks one like ifink. It by Bluefin software and only cost a couple of quid.

Last training run this morning. In the dark. Brrrr.

Feeling nervous and excited now.

well done on your training! Def take it easy this week. I notice if I am away for a few days and don't run I do better after the break. It's the long term training that counts.

I don't know, I always study training schedules and ask my guru and then just do my own thing. Before my half marathon I actually didn't get to run at all for the whole week shock but it was ok. I think as long as you don't overdo it you will be fine, it's what has gone before that counts, the last few days won't influence things unless you are very tired. So maybe only one or two very short, easy runs for you this week?

Out in the dark drizzle this morning. According to my app this is recovery week yay!

Did a short run. It was hard enough, my legs still ache from Saturday.

Countdown to race day...5 days to go.

How do you all prepare for a race in the last week?

If my legs recover from today I really think i will be able to do it (slowly and with walking breaks)

Add 5 minutes to your runs every week for 6 weeks.

Ran 10k! Very slowly. It took 1 hr 20 min. Very happy.

Stretching. Yes Ido some yoga to lengthen calf muscles, hamstrings and quads.

Eating. I am eating more carbs. Should up protein too. I eat well. I love food!

I felt amazing when I did the 9k. Monday and today it was more of a struggle. I feel like im holding back a bit too. Dont want to use all my energy up too soon!

Today i did 2 laps of the 20k course which is 5k. It was hard as it was very windy and i was running into the wind plus I only had 50 mins to do it.

Do you think I should aim to run the 10k on Saturday? Or just do the hour.

how do you feel with the extra distance, do you like it so far? are you stretching when you finish and eating and that sort of thing?

Im making my plan for the last 2 weeks:

How does this sound?

Today did recovery run, 4 k in 30 mins
Thurs I will do 50 min run, 20 min run, 5 min walk, 20 min run.
Sat I will go for a 1 hr run aiming for 8k. With 2 walking breaks like last week.

Next week is final week. So one short fast run on Monday. Thursday a 40 min run..

10k on Sunday.

God I'm nervous already...
