Marked spot as phone is cooperating and letting me load the new short page :-)
Detrmined to get back on bike more now we back at school/childminders& work for me. Did 9miles Sunday and plan to cycle to work tuesday (18miles) but its getting darker in the mornings now - I leave at 6.15am so got new jacket& refelectors in lidls last week but they didn't have any shoe covers. Anyone recommend do gd ones? I suffered with cold &wet toes last winter.

Aldi normally do bike stuff in Sept and they had good shoe covers last year quite cheap, might be worth waiting a couple of weeks.

Shall we introduce ourselves agin? I'm a mountain biker, more of a rambler on two wheels really, rather than a Dirt Diva. And the bike makes a handy All-Terrain Zimmer Frame for my old bones Blush

For the road, I have a recumbent trike (Pashley PDQ3).

Hello, glad to find the new thread! I'm a mountain biker (easy stuff, nothing crazy!) and an occasional roadie. Currently unable to cycle due to a foot problem following a recent bike vs car incident but hoping I might try a short run later this week to see how I get on. Meanwhile, I just got a rather dazzling pink new Altura night vision coat in the sales which I'm quite excited about. They may stop me cycling, but they'll not stop me shopping for cycling things!!

I'm a wannabe tourer.

I've got a Tricross cyclocross type bike which I commute on and do day rides. Have a mtb which has been in the work shop for six months but should be fixed next week!

Have just bought a recumbent trike which is driving me demented with mechanical problems....all of which I think are caused by me. Grin

I hope to do a tour next year.

I think mine is also a Night Vision (silver grey) . . . but the reflective bits have mostly dropped off because I didn't wash it properly Blush

Viva my tricross is in pieces at the moment but will hopefully be fixed soon. It's such a nice bike!

Hello! Thanks for the new thread. I'm a wannabe mountain biker (just started), riding an old and vintage bike.. Am inspired by this thread to get out in my dps hybrid and try road biking. Not on a recumbent though by the sounds of it Grin

Went out again this morning and bashed my vagine on the cross bar.... Note to self, invest in some decent clothing!! Including padded shorts Grin.. Trouble is we're totally brassic, so dp has been shopping for running trousers for me to wear over cycling shorts, am not really very convinced by that one I have to say!

We only did 7.8 miles but it was uphill most of the way and rocky, so very hard work. Must also stock up on cake for afters...

Puffy, you are now a real mountain biker, not just a wannabe Wink

Does it have to be Kendal mint cake or can I get the real gooey stuff in!!!

Real cake! Perhaps we should start another thread on best cycling cake stops. I could add hundreds!! I'm still sad that The Hub closed at Glentress, they did an ace chocolate cake that the new cafe there doesn't even come close to matching! And the millionaire's shortbread was something else! I miss The Hub.

Piffpaff, are you near Galloway?

I've been eyeing up coming to Dumfies and Galloway for a week, not really mtb. More road biking. Original plan was to camp or rent a cottage for a week and do day rides. I've been struggling finding any day ride route info, can you recommend any books for this area? Looking for rides of about 40 miles.

Of course if I came I'd have to bring the mtb and try a route.....but it's been 20 years since I did any mtb.

I'm east coast in Fife Viva and we've never really managed more than a weekend to Galloway - we can't seem to do anything but go north when we go anywhere, we're both big fans of the Cairngorms and thereabouts. Leave it with me though, I'll ask DH because he goes there a lot for work.

Hey KitKat Girl, the route I pm'd you about starts at a deli/coffe shop, stops for lunch in a cafe, then afternoon tea at a garden centre, and finishes at a pub. It's not a long route, but obviously with all those stops, it takes all day Grin

I'm getting back on my bike more after second daughter turned two last week. The only rides I seem to find time for is a once a week commute to work which is 9.5miles each way half cycle track half roads and a weekend morning ride whilst hubbie does breakfast for kids I get an hour to myself so only about 9-10miles. I'd love to do more and bought two cycle mags on our hols last week and was checking out new road bikes. My bike is at least 15yrs+ old a mtn bike with road tyres Grin but comfy so I'd have no idea where to start with a new one these days plus its sturdy enough to carry bike seat for dd and tagalong for other dd.
Thanks for Aldi shoe cover tip will keep eye out but they not very local nr me

I keep checking the aldi website and have signed up to newsletters, but no sign of any adult cycling gear for the next few weeks Sad

Anyone know what time of year they usually do it?

Aldi had some "commuter cycling" gear in quite recently, so there may be a few bits left in some stores. They usually have biking stuff in around Easter, I think.

Report
VivaLeBeaver · 10/09/2013 12:23

That's right they did have a few commuter bits a few weeks ago. I was hoping for more soon but maybe that was it for autumn. Last year they had loads more, I got gloves, socks, some fab winter trousers, merino wool base layer. They had shoes, tool kits, overshoes.

I guess it's different every year.
