place offered in 2014 london marathon, cant run! come and help me prepare.

After completing my first 5k back in april I was feeling on top of the world, so much so I applied for a place in the london marathon blush

I am planning to run with my dh for the miscarriage association after losing our first pregnancy in 2008.

So who wants to help me in my quest to be marathon fit by april?

Words of advice/ encouragement and general chat is all welcome.

I am doing a half marathon in September. My advice is start now- April seems a long way off but it will come around quickly!
Have you thought of fitting in a half marathon as part of the training?

Join a running club? I trained with our marathon runners this year. Did hill runs,sprints, weights as well as distance.

I should say I have just last week relocated to South Korea and have two. Young dc.

I have looked into a running club but its monsoon season and most expats return home for the summer.

We have a gym in the apartment so I plan to go most evenings just to increase my fitness and will try to download an excercise plan for marathon training.

Hi Barbie, maybe you could try starting with c25k and build up from there. The c25k is a very gentle start and it'll get you going in the right direction. After that Hal Higdon has some good beginner marathon programmes which don't demand huge mileage. They won't get you to an award winning time, but they should help you avoid injury.

As always, get good shoes!

By the way, how do you know that you already have a place for London? I thought the ballot results weren't out until October ?

Oops! Sorry, just reread and realized you're already past the 5k stage. Maybe the Hal Higdon will still be useful or the London Marathon site has its own training plans too.

Thanks for posting.

We know we have a place as we are running for a charity. We are also expats and it requires booking flights etc so they emailed us to confirm. I think the ballot is out in October for those places.

The island is covered in mountains, going to be very tough to train over humid tooconfused

Have signed up to runners world and downloads a marathon plan on an I phone app.

Will give it my best shot!

Hello Barbie!

I'm 4 weeks into a 20 week marathon training plan (mine is in November). It's already ramping up quite fast (long run is every sunday, last week as 10 miles, this week will be 12). The best advice I've had (from someone I met at parkrun who has run 100+ marathons) is (a) long, slow runs and (b) rest days.

Have you looked at the runningbug website

They've just kicked off some challenes for 5k, 10k, HM and Marathon, with dedicated forums, training plans etc.... its very friendly too - some competitive rivalry where you can log the miles you've done, and lots of chatt, virtual friends etc....

There are loads of good articles on nutrition and hydration taht might be useful for you too.... espceially with the humidity etc

The HM plans are really good - I'm only doing a half - but I would guess the marathon plans are equally good....

And - don't forget cross training / strength / stretching / relaxation too - they are equally important as running in your weekly schedule....

No I haven't, I have been burying my head in the sand blush

Trying to get a grip of living in such a strange place, training has taken a back seat. However from aug bothe dh and I will start a plan. Off to look at that web site now. Thank you very much smile
