I can't believe I managed to do it! I am very unfit and about 3 stone overweight. But I did it Grin

Just wanted to share with someone as I'm very proud of myself at the moment Blush

Can I join you? Also 3 stone over weight. I did my first one on Friday and my second one today.

How did it go? I am so unfit but managed it (just). I was a bit concerned that someone might stroll past while I was 'running'. Have you run before?

Well done, I think starting is the hardest bit (and the actually running too).

Pancakeflipper · 03/03/2013 19:29

Yeahhhhhhhh
Did you find yourself a comfy pace?

I am just out of the shower from a 30min run and it was lovely.... Comfy from the first step. Keep going, it's so worth it. You will feel so much fitter.

overmydeadbody · 03/03/2013 19:47

A very big well done! Grin

Be warned, running is very addictive!

The first run is definitely the hardest, but my God it feels good once you've done it doesn't it!

flossyfloo · 03/03/2013 19:52

Backinaminute - well done for starting as well. We can do this together!

It went better than I was expecting it to. How was your 2nd run? I also don't want people seeing me so went out at dusk and live fairly close to an industrial estate so ran round there! I used to run a lot as a teenager/young adult but I don't think I've done any exercise for about 8 years! Starting is definitely the hardest but I suddenly decided I was going to do it today and just went for it. So glad I did Grin

Pancake - I surprised myself by finding a nice comfortable pace straight away. I really was expecting it to be so much harder than it actually was Smile. I'm aching already though!

I keep having urges to go running but am scared that I'll be completely rubbish at it. I haven't done exercised f

Crikeyblimey · 03/03/2013 20:02

I keep having urges to go running but am scared that I'll be completely rubbish at it. I haven't done exercised for years.

Please tell me it won't make me cry when I realise I can't breathe after 2 minutes.

Well done to all who have managed it.

flossyfloo · 03/03/2013 20:28

Urges are good! I have been having urges for a little while and eventually just went and did it! You can do it too, it really isn't that hard.

I was ready to be able to run no more than 30 seconds and really be struggling for breath, had my inhaler ready (asthma) but didn't need it once Grin

If you start it crikey, we can all support each other through it Smile

I've never run so this is all new to me. I'm also doing weight watchers so it's part of a new overhaul. C25k appeals because it doesn't take long. I went in the dark on Friday. Today was quite hard, I was still a bit stiff from Friday. It does feel good though. I stayed at my parents last night and they live in the middle of nowhere so that was fab - didn't see anyone. Back to lurking in the dark from home.

I've got blisters on my heels which is a pain (literally) - think my socks were too short and my trainers rubbed above them. Not a great start. Might leave the next run till Wednesday. I can't believe I'm doing this (not can anyone that knows me)

flossyfloo · 03/03/2013 20:49

I can't believe I actually got off my arse and did it today! I'm already dreading Tuesday though, reckon it'll hurt more doing the 2nd run than it did today.

Well done! I'm on week 8 at the moment. I never thought I would be able to run for 28 mins, let alone enjoy it! C25K is brilliant because it eases you in gradually. I think a lot of people give up running because they go out and try to run right away, end up getting injured and give up.

Two things that I learnt very quickly- proper running shoes are very, very important; do NOT wait until you are running longer distances. The wrong shoes can cause injuries.

Secondly, run much slower than you think you need to, and then run a bit slower than that. It's tempting to go for it when you are only running for 60 seconds but you need to run at a steady pace when you're going for longer. The target on the programme is 5k in 30 mins but from what I've read most people take a bit longer to break the magic 30 mins.

Crikey- I'm on a fitness forum and there are people in their 60s and 70s doing C25K. It's designed so that almost anyone can do it. Have a look at the NHS pages and see what you think :) NHS C25K

Crikeyblimey · 03/03/2013 21:19

Thanks, I will. I might even have a look at some trainers in my lunch hour tomorrow (I don't own any!)

toomuch2young · 03/03/2013 21:28

crikey I started c25k last week and got myself some reebok trim tones from sports direct for £20! They are super comfy.
Good luck with the programme!!

Crikeyblimey · 03/03/2013 22:11

Hi. I just tried to download the podcasts to my phone and it takes me to a page that says "if you don't have adobe flash player, download from here". I go "there" and adobe tells me flash player isn't supported by my device. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

flossyfloo · 03/03/2013 22:24

What phone do you have? I've got an iphone and had to get the 'podcast' app before I could actually get the c25k podcast (hope that makes sense?!) It never mentioned adobe for me so not sure what's going on there???

jchocchip · 03/03/2013 22:31

crikey I had that problem with android. Had to download to pc and copy across.
Well done for starting I did c25k last year and it is a year since my first parkrun Did my 33rd parkrun yesterday and it is great :)

EauRouge · 03/03/2013 22:50

I never used the NHS podcast, I got RunDouble on my Android and used that. You can listen to your own music that way. Think it was only about 99p for the app.

jchoc, there's a parkrun starting near me soon, can't wait!

Belugagrad · 04/03/2013 07:08

Just wanted to say well done! It's hard starting but once you do you never regret it and it does get addictive!

flossyfloo · 04/03/2013 08:15

Thanks choc and beluga. I'm not aching too much this morning, just got sore shins. When I told my DH last night that my shins were hurting, he said 'well, you are a big unit slamming down hard on the pavement' Hmm. Apparently, a physio had said it to him once so he thought it was a good thing to say to me Hmm

Quite prepared to get addicted to running, as long as it takes over my chocolate addiction Grin

EauRouge · 04/03/2013 08:24

One other thing about the C25k podcasts. Apparently on one of them Laura says to land on your heel- this is WRONG! You can damage yourself this way. You should be landing mid-foot.

flossyfloo · 04/03/2013 09:29

I don't think I've ever taken any notice of which part of my foot lands first. Thanks rouge, I'll remember that when I'm out tomorrow.

Crikeyblimey · 04/03/2013 21:02

Well, I've done it! Not actually been running or anything so grand but I did buy some running shoes today. :)

Tomorrow may well be my first go at this running thing. Ds has a piano lesson so we eat early. I should get chance to go out when we get back. Failing that, I'll go on Wednesday whilst ds is at cubs.

Well done, just go for it. I am incredibly unfit but even I managed it. It's hard but doable, they are only short bursts. I just keep thinking 'I'm actually running, who'd've thought?!'

EauRouge · 04/03/2013 21:24

Yes, it does build up nice and slowly. Just take it at a steady pace and you'll be fine!

I finished week 8 today- only one week left now Shock

flossyfloo · 05/03/2013 08:00

Well done crikey, you're nearly there! I have to go and get myself a proper pair of running trainers, the pair I have aren't the best.

I'm a bit achy today so not looking forward to my run this afternoon. But I'll definitely do, not giving in! I've got a thing about people seeing me running so I've been trying to think of a route that will be fairly quiet and won't have too much of a chance of seeing someone I know. I'm looking forward to getting much fitter so I won't have to worry about that so much!
