What should he do to recover? He sounded like he'd had a stroke when he called me from the finish!
He says he's queesy and can't walk.

My DH is a physio. Ice bath. Buy bags of ice! Add cold water. Lie as long as He can bear! Up to 20 mins. Repeat next day.
Although he will want heat! Ice is the way to go.
Expect pain to be at it's worst 1 1/2 to 2 days later.
Keep moving, especially tonight, keep waking and gently stretching

Walking not waking!

He'll get the DOMS, stock up on ibuprofen!

Ha ha strangeways, are you a physio too? My DH has no sympathy after my netball matches. Just shouts DOMS DOMS (to the pink panther cartoon tune) around the house after me!

StrangewaysHereICome Mon 10-Oct-11 21:13:57

No, not a physio but I suffered DOMS when I decided to run 12 miles with no preparation. Now I've learned training is a good idea wink

What is DOMS????

He turned down the ice cold bath. And today (tuesday) he's in agony!
I told him not to run the whole thing. He's a mentalist.

Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness

And totally agree... 2nd day after is always the most painful. Lots and lots of ice smile

Sorry he is in agony. Must admit I was a bit worried when I read the thread title - do you really mean he did no training? Or didn't train to that distance? It is (apparently) v v dangerous to do that sort of distance on no training.

How is he now?

bumbums Tue 11-Oct-11 16:46:14

He could run 10k reasonably comfortably but hadn't done that for about 6 weeks.
I did tell him not to run the whole thing, but he clearly had other ideas.
I will encourage make him have a cold bath tonight. Other than that he's eating lots of protien and drinking loads of fluids, including sports drinks.

Why could it have been so dangerous? Is it that he could have badly damaged his knees?

MayDayChild Tue 11-Oct-11 20:51:53

Damaged everything basically! Torn muscles ligaments etc
Put stress on joints
Hope he feels better tomorrow. Let's face it, if he does it again, no need for sympathy
