just asking the committed runners of the site! i am just starting back due to injury, but am trying to maintain a regular running pattern, just looking out at the hail and the wind and its rather putting me off...

do you all run what ever the weather? if so what do you wear in the colder weather?

cheers

Yes, never miss a run because of the weather....I am very slightly obsessive though!

I just get wet, wearing anything vaguely waterproof makes me sweat more. In the cold weather I wear thermal Nike running top and tights, gloves and hat. That plus high vis gilet is enough to keep me warm once I get moving.

Tbh I love the manky weather days, especially in summer when there are more people about. I am an anti-social so and so who likes to run alone so I prefer having my routes to myself. Plus you feel so virtuous put running when everyone else stays in. You can only get so wet anyway before you stop noticing. As for the cold, once you get going it's fine. Wind can be a pain but I just change my route. Go inland where I get a bit more shelter that the seafront.

Tee hee doyouthink you sound like me! The only weather that stops me is high wind as most of my running is done pushing DS in the buggy and wind is impossible. I love running in the rain. I also like running alone Smile

Yes, best days are chilly, blowy days and some light rain to keep you cool. Much like today only no running for me as no childcare Sad. I love running.

I agree, the best days are cold rainy ones. I wear a soft shell if it's really horrible out. You feel double good afterwards, like you have really achieved something by going out in the manky weather! I have my best runs in the winter. The only thing that did stop me last year was the icy roads, I did try and it was pointless as spent so much time on my arse (we live in rural Devon with lots of steep hills)

well i guess i need to get a bit of winter gear and get my butt out there then! i also like sticking in the ipod and running alone - just need to get kitted out, i will have to have a shopping trip!

im not managing to do great distances yet as just started again, but am going to try and stick with it even through winter this year. i have just come down with a cold but am thinking if i feel up to it a bit of a gentle run tomorrow wont kill me, (i hope!)

Sports Direct. Tons of stuff in there with massive discounts. I get all my running clothes, water bottles, gloves, hats etc from there.

Yes, sports direct is very good, website better than the shop and delivery is very quick. I ordered some trainers one evening and they came by lunchtime the next dayShock

I wear Nike thermal tights and top. Can't link at the moment but I think they cost £20 ish. Really comfy though and will certainly see me through a few more winters.

I just bought some fluorescent running tops in the sale for sports direct too. They are Addidas, really bright and were only £13 each. They are men's but I kind of like that because they give me a bit more coverage and they will fit over my thermal gear for the winter without adding too much bulk.

Ohhhh running......................I miss running, I can't wait to get back out there after this baby is born.
I don't run in hot weather, the colder the better for me, I have ran in falling snow.

Aldi is doing it's running kit from Thursday so if you have one nearby get down there. They have tops, tights, jackets, hats, gloves etc all at bargain prices and they're all decent quality! I'll be down there tomorrow morning to stock up.

It's a one off special buy, and will probably be all but gone by Saturday. If you can get down there tomorrow you'll do well!

Sounds about right to me chrispackhamslovebunny, whoever said running was a cheap hobby was very, very wrongGrin

Just wait until you start looking at gps watches and the like.....there is serious money to be frittered away!!

If you have an iPhone download the Nike running app, it is absolutely brilliant. Records your, route, pace, km times and so on. Each day you just want to beat the previous day and it really spurs you on. I have run over 600 km with it since May and I am still excited to use it. You will need an arm band as well. Think u can use it on some of the iPods and the itouch as well.

Really....? Will the iPhone app work on a 3GS iPhone? I hadn't even thought about gps watches..... Theres still plenty to spend up on then! ( btw... What are gps watches? Or is the iPhone app better?) I'm over my freak out now, did another few miles tonight though found it heavy going as was up at 5 today, but feeling better for it now. I might give myself a rest tomorrow and go again Saturday. Feeling quite proud of my self as ran for 30 mins without stopping today! Smile

dont like hot weather, but cold weather makes me run faster. Dont like wind either but rain and snow are not a problem.

I think the I phone app is brilliant it really has transformed my running, have lost my final, after dd, half a stone.

Only thing that might be a negative is that it feels quite bulky on your arm and it's a bit of a faff if you want to visually check it while running. This doesn't bother me at all but some might think a watch a better option. Although tbh the app costs about a fiver or less, then an arm strap about a tenner which makes it well worth it.

so how does the iphone app compare with a gps watch.....cost wise?

see i am totally getting into this running lark and often wonder how far ive gone over how long....i had no idea there were apps or watches that even did that!

do tell me more....

RunKeeper app for iPhone or iPod is much better than the Nike app.

I run in all weathers. Not at the mo as am 5 weeks post section but will be out again in January.

I like running in the middle of summer though at midday. I hate the heat usually and avoid the sun if I can but when running I love it. Can't explain why. When it's cold, I'm always aware of how hot I am compared to how cold outside is but in the summer everything's hot. I feel all at one with the dusty tracks.

Battery life is much better on a gps watch and it would be cheaper to buy than an iPhone.

If you already have an iPhone though it may suit well enough and not be worth buying a gps watch, iyswim.

I have a garmin 310 which I love and I am completely lost without it. I have a htc desire phone which has gps but the battery life is crap with the gps on so it would be no use for my long runs.

Now I love runing in the winter, I hate it in the summer! I get all hot and bothered and my heart rate rockets. Give me a nice crisp frosty day anytimeGrin
