do you wear a hat or does it get too sweaty? Do your trainers let in water through the breathable bit? Do you wear proper wicking waterproof clothes that cost a bomb?

If you run in the rain you will get wet. There's nothing you can do to stop it happening so you just need to make sure whatever you're wearing is comfortable.

Waterproof jackets are a complete waste of time as you'll get soaked inside from sweat. I stick with technical fabrics, not cotton, and a cap. I wear lightweight shoes so they let water but I have good socks that don't rub when they're wet. If it's cold and windy I sometimes wear a wind proof gillet.

I wear a cap, other than that I just wear what I would normally be wearing.

Like Nocake says, waterproofs just make you too hot so I just accept getting wet. I don't mind it actually, generally it's quieter when it's raining.

Are waterproofs a complete waste of time even if they are those high tech breathable fabrics. Nike do one called dry fit?

I've never got on with waterproofs. Another vote for Lycra and Just Get Wet.

Nike Dri-Fit isn't waterproof. It's a lightweight techie fabric that wicks sweat away from your body. However, it is good to wear in the rain as it doesn't soak up water like cotton does.

Recommend "tight" trousers as opposed to "flappy" ones. If they are loose and wet through, they flap like cold wet fish against your legs...tis not nice. Running tights (full-length or capri) every time for me...

A cap keeps the rain off your face, which is useful!

The wetter you get, the better you feel once you are back indoors (in theory anyway!)

i have concluded the same about waterproof jackets but am thinking about waterproof socks. anyone tried?

I just go for lightweight tops and my usual knee length running leggings and get wet. I've tried so many waterproof jackets over the years and they just make me hot and sweaty and uncomfortable. Windproof gilets are good too.

The only time I wear a hat is if it's less than minus 2 degrees otherwise I end up ripping them off my head in frustration after 5 minutes!

I live in the countryside and run off road so my feet always get wet and filthy but I just have a shower as soon as I get back.

I wear what I normally wear. No point in worrying about getting wet when I'm going to be running with sweat after 10 mins anywa grin

fishie, waterproof socks are the same as waterproof jackets. They will make your feet hot and sweaty so there's not point wearing them. They're great for cycling though.

<must run>

nappyaddict Thu 11-Nov-10 22:37:55

ibbydibby Do both full length and 3/4 flappy trousers do the wet fish thing?

HerBeatitude Thu 11-Nov-10 22:40:38

Leggings. They don't flap

thelunar66 Thu 11-Nov-10 23:31:55

running tights... nothing flappy.

agree with everyone else about waterproof stuff getting sweaty and horrible inside.

I have a hellyhanson long sleeved technical top that doesnt feel wet even when soaked through.

I wear a fleece headband to stop the wind giving me ear ache, but doesnt make my whole head hot.

thelunar66 Thu 11-Nov-10 23:32:43

Oh... and if you are going out after about 3.30pm at this time of year.. FGS wear something reflective!

Can you ladies help out with suggestions for shorter than average longs - the winter tights I have tried would need to be doubled back a loooooong way and my capris are now a bit short and cold.

thelunar66 Fri 12-Nov-10 11:15:12

Hobbittoes... which ones are you using? I ask because I desperately need some very long ones - talking 35 inside leg here!

hobbittoes Fri 12-Nov-10 12:27:11

Nike filament - but my little leggies are veeeerry short grin

They are perfect in the capri style if a little longer than intended - love the quality.
