Brexit

SLOW CLAP FOR BREXITEERS (again).

I posted a while back about a ridiculous customs charge I had to pay due to the wonder that is Brexit.

So now, it’s a special birthday of a relative who has had a hard time recently. I ordered her a certain type of Murano glass vase (she collects these) and, hardly surprisingly, it comes from Italy where it is made. No problem as it’s free and fast delivery with this company.

Anyway, the vase didn’t arrive. Checked on UPS and hey presto - a customs charge of £170 for a vase that cost £450. This is “due to the inconvenience that is Brexit” that’s how it translates on the Italian tracking page).

So, it seems we can no longer order anything from Europe for to the genius of those who voted Brexit! Has anything more idiotic ever taken place in British history? Maybe reality will finally hit them at the same time as the customs charges hit?

Are you the poster with the £3000 artwork?

I'm a definite retainer, but you knew that it would be subject to tax, so why didn't you check the amount?

Slow hand clap for ordering without checking.

Maybe reality will finally hit them at the same time as the customs charges hit?

Maybe the people who believed their jobs were being put at risk by cheap Eastern European labour couldn’t imagine being able to spend £450 on a birthday present in their wildest dreams?

Are you going to create a post every time you order something? 🤔

YABU.

Shop Local and spend £450 here instead.

I think Brexit was a stupid idea but really don’t understand your post. If this has happened before then you already knew about customs charges. Why didn’t you check the amount before ordering? It’s up to you whether you decide the item is worth paying the extra for but I don’t know why you’d be shocked when it’s already happened to you before.

Maybe stop spending so much money on internet purchases

#shoplocal and all that 🤷‍♀️

Plus the stealth brag "look how much money I'm having to spend on customs charges but it's ok as I have loads of money" threads are losing their shine somewhat.

I don't really get the new systems. I've had two separate things arrive from Germany, each valued at about £100, and neither has needed any additional fees paying. I was mentally ready for something, but they just turned up. Is it a statistical sample / luck thing, or is there a proper way to do it?

I've had to pay tax for goods from the USA, I now only order from Britain. Maybe you should do the same.

As PP said slow clap for the muppet that keeps ordering things and not checking new charges that they’ve already experienced before 🤷‍♀️

God, so fucking predictable.

Here is the deal since Brexit. One in 3 imports will be held at U.K. customs and charges an extortionate amount. So take your chances people - roll up, roll up. You will have to pay it or be liable for return postage / damage. Ideal!

Or, you know, read the terms & conditions of import before you buy.

Report
canigooutyet · 29/03/2021 18:58

Wow. Products from outside the U.K. may come with additional custom charges. If those EU aren’t mentioning this then that’s on them. If you buy without searching charges that’s on you.

Why the bloody hell would I only order from Britain. What utter nonsense is that? Who does that? It’s not even possible.

I’d this is the mentality of people it’s no wonder we are where we are.

There are plenty of companies within the U.K. where you can buy such items. Your footprint on getting one item imported is huge compared to a retailer importing a whole containers worth.

As a British company, our exports have been unaffected in terms of share of sales. We have had the minor inconvenience of the odd delay here and there but we got our act together, have all our products coded for export and got our licence in plenty of time.

On the other side, my parents in their 60s are vaccinated. For that, I’m very grateful to this government and the people you are sneering at.
