Brexit Arms - Out with the old and in with the new

It’s time again for another Brexit Arms thread to see us into Christmas and beyond.

Well what a week it’s been!!

Boris has now completed his first week and he’s been busy. New conservatives have been sworn in, the Queens Speech yesterday shows promise (aware that the proof of the (Xmas) pudding is in the eating) and Boris’ Deal is going to be voted on today with the results being around 3pm I believe.

Meanwhile, on the other side all four wheels have definitely fallen off the red bus and were very nearly joined by a garden gate and a car door. Oh dear!!

Anyway, I have added a few more Christmas decs to the pub and popped the fairy back on the tree (it took a nasty tumble)

We are now good to go.
Cheers all 🍷🍷

Ps. If anyone wants to volunteer for outside catering that would be👍🏻

Popping in.

Saw an interesting meme shared by an American friend.

It said

“Some of y’ll are too busy being Republican or Democrat to notice you’ve stopped being decent.”

Good advice there...feelings run so strongly and for some it takes over.

Thank you, Time! That knitted Jezza might become a collectors' item.

A builders brew for me, please, and I'm happy to set up the breakfast tray every morning if you would like. I've been working on some new recipes...

PMK with my own Christmas tree topper.
Being over 50 years old he’s a bit worse for wear, but sentimental to me as he belonged to my Mum.

time4chocolate thanks, and you're brave taking on the brexmas pub crowd with its 24/7 happy hour. Xmas Wink Love the new decs and Bangers ahhhh the oldest tree decorations are the best.

Dusty will you be 'cocking around the brexmas tree' once you've finished work today?

Looking like maggots and rat hairs are back on the menu in some establishments; not this one hopefully. Hmm

I typed this on the last thread and then I couldn't post it.

I'm currently watching the Brexit debate and it's interesting that the opposition party speakers sound exactly like a lot of remainers on here. I agree with MeganBacon about their inability to accept the result of the referendum as if they have never been allowed to lose at anything, sports days, everyone wins a medal etc.

They simply seem incapable of understanding that other people, the majority of those who voted in this case, have an opposing opinion.

Thank you for the last thread, Dusty - I've enjoyed reading it.

My festive contribution is the awesome Geoffrey Cox reciting "The Night Before Christmas"

Loving Speaker Hoyle so far. Refused all amendments to the WAB and the vote expected at 3. Star

I'm going to ask one more question and then start singing cheerful songs. (No, I won't knock anyone out of Whamaggedon).

I've got someone with whom I lost contact because she said didn't want to be friends with Leavers.

what would you lovely folk do about that? I've not been in touch for months so I have no idea if views have changed etc.

Christmas card is an easy thing to do but going forward in a friendship would be a lie....

Stepping away from Parliament and Brexit for a momment, BBC is reporting that Prince Philip has been admitted to hospital as a 'precautionary measure'.

Just as Her Majesty must have thought she could put her feet up for a bit of a break before the family arrives.

Report
DuckWillow · 20/12/2019 14:15

Autumn quite honestly if you want to bother I would just send a card.

I have a lot of friends who voted Leave and I wouldn’t dream of doing anything like that . We don’t necessarily agree on everything but we can have civil conversations and laugh and support one another when needed. Friendship should be able to cope with the fact that everyone has different views.

Love Geoffrey Cox 😍😍😍
His voice is amazing

I'd send a Xmas card if it were me Autumn - it's an opening gesture & it's up to her if she responds or not

Obvs depends if you want her back as a friend - if you're not bothered either way then just leave it

And that MPs are beginning to vote on the Brexit Bill....here’s praying it goes through this time.

thanks

for myself, I am not bothered. But because I could be dealing with an elderly parent for years, I feel like I need support.

okay, enough depressing shite from me. I have to clean my flat, which I've only been avoiding since 10am.....

Larry Elliott talking about exactly that in The Guardian today Sivery.
"Strategy three is the hardest for remainers to swallow but it is the only option that offers a way back for Labour: embrace Brexit and argue for a left version of Britain outside the EU. This could take many forms: a devolution of power to local mayors; a new deal for the north; state support for green industry that would provide well-paid jobs in every constituency. It means exuding optimism that things can get better rather than telling people who are struggling, but not destitute, that only state handouts can alleviate their misery.

The choice is simple: start putting together a post-Brexit progressive project or have a monster sulk and watch the Tories make the political weather."

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/dec/20/labour-embrace-progressive-brexit-tories-interventionist

Read this yesterday but didn't get round to posting. Much more detailed version of the sort of analysis I was attempting, by a proper academic, on the roots of Labour and its "problem" with class right from its inception.

Very neatly explains the current cloth ears.
