It will take generations to heal this rift but there is always hope.

Always a remainer but honestly beyond caring now. Just wish they'd deal with climate change, as brexit won't matter long term. Sorry, feeling very meh about politics at the moment.

After endless anguish and effort just thought well that’s that. At least I don’t have Brexit on my conscience. I couldn’t do more than I have.

Apart from a cross in a box there isn't much most people can do.
Most people are trying to feed their kids / work/ earn money and don't have time to be 'political activists ' or join their local parties.
It's all most people can do is vote and feel deflated when the party they want don't win.
First past the post isn't ideal but it's all we have. We have to carry on. It's all we can do.

Well the good thing is none of this is on me. I didn't vote Leave and don't vote Tory. I'll be expecting nothing less than sunlit uplands as promised.

Since when has any government delivered exactly what it promise to the last letter?

Sounds like another bad loser remainer comment saying,

Na Na Na Na Na it’s not exactly what people thought therefore the 17.4 million who voted to leave must reverse their decision.

Why is it after 3 years since 2016 and a massive majority in the recent GE for the party that promised to deliver what people voted for in 2016 is still not accepted by the remainers?

Didn't vote, but have become pro leave after the fact as I believe in democracy more than the EU. Don't like EU much anyway, but didn't bother as I thought Remain would walk it.

Don't resent Remainers or name call Leavers. Just wish they'd get on with it and stop all the nonsense. I don't know who is worse to be honest.

I agree OP - Dead Ringers has been very helpful the past few years, I can even listen to the repeats and laugh.

My understanding of 'things' now is that both Johnson and Starmer have said that the vocabulary of Leave and Remain is now over....I'm sure Dead Ringers will keep us all duly informed, after the fact of course.

If people wanted to remain in the EU why did Jo Swinson lose her seat?

EU is an economic disaster for the UK.

UK is the third largest donor to the EU, but has an ever increasing trade deficit with the EU.

A fact that not one remain supporter can explain why that is beneficial to the UK.

If EU membership was such an economic 'disaster' for the U.K. then how come we were the fifth richest country in the world during the period of our membership.

Due to the vision of personal gain from a small faction now dominating the Conservative party our EU membership has been ditched.

There are no economic forecasts suggesting that we will be better off after membership is ditched.

In order for Brexit to move us from the 'disastrous' position of 5 th place - we would need to rise to 4th,3rd,2nd or 1st position internationally.

Under the guidance of Boris Johnson, Cummings, Rees Mogg etc this seems unlikely.

Never been convinced that UK is, or ever was, the 5th richest country in the World. Economies are measured in turnover as opposed to profit. The large banking system distorts the UK figures big time.

For example, who is richer? The company that has a turnover of £1 Billion, but does not make a profit or a company with £100 Million turnover that makes £10 million profit?

Since UK joined the EU its individual growth has been about 44%. Over same period EU has grown by 26%. Reason for difference is that the wealthy EU members are subsiding the weaker EU members. Never forget that of the 28 EU members only 10 pay in and 18 take out. How is that sustainable?

Depends which reports and newspapers you read.

Not possible as expanding economy such as India will soon displace; Germany, France and the UK down the world rankings anyway.

Your figures suggest that being a member of the EU has been really bad for the UK economy...

As confirmed by these researchers from an academic backwater that has, also, suffered greatly while the UK has been in the EU:

No reference made whatsoever to trade deficit with EU and trade surplus with Non EU. Wonder what that bit of information was left out?

Also no mention that Eurozone is only 15% of World economy. Countries outside the Eurozone is 85% of World trade.

UK profits from the trade with Non EU members and non EU is almost 6 times greater than EU.

What’s the benefit of remaining in a shrinking EU when the rest of the World is expanding?

What’s the benefit of remaining in a shrinking EU when the rest of the World is expanding?

Depends on what our relationship with europe turns out to be.

80% of our exports is in services and world trade is on a downturn as protectionism wins out, proximity always helps with trade.

I'd suggest the EU can get better deals than the UK can (size and expertise) we have years of work ahead of us, just to stay as we are right now, let alone get new FTA's, most of which don't cover services, so our service industries alred trade worldwide... i doubt the US will allow greater access for services, let alone the Chinese.

There really is no need for this sort of rubbish anymore. We are obviously going to leave now, it can't be stopped so no more necessity for any Daily Express bllocks to be thrown at us.

One thing that has been very noticeable in the social media output is that (as many suspected) the "victory" and gloating over Remainers is all. I've barely seen a single Tweet that looked forward to the end state or even seemed to care. It's now very clear that it's in BoJo's political interests to deliver a Brexit that doesn't upset anything too much - as with the frontstop/backstop no-one will give a f
ck so long as they can pretend to have a "victory"

So for Remainers we'll either get a BRINO which keeps us chugging along or a bonkers Hard Brexit that will at least give us the pleasure of "told you so" and the chance of getting the Tories out (depending on an outbreak of sense in the Labour party that is)
