I'm not promising to be the resident landlady, and I can't even hope to moderate the discussion or offer up great memes etc because I don't know how, but here's opening the next iteration....

First drink is on the house.

Are we all watching His Dark Materials, or is there no appetite for chat?

I don’t mean to be contentious but that’s a bit shit isn’t it?

Lyra is actually Greta Thunberg when she’s angry 😂

Always a warm welcome, but as it's a quiet night, I'm turning in. The honesty box is under the till.

I'm watching Reggie in China. Thought provoking stuff and when you see the rate and scale of progress you do wonder why anyone is in such a state about Brexit. Quick nightcap for me. Wine

Fancy a wee night cap too. I was pondering earlier about this odd little sneering laugh that's been developed by politicians when they want to sound superior and look down on the opposition's proposals.
It especially used by she we call nippy sweetie up here! - NS.
I saw it today on the Kay Burly show on Sky this morning from the shadow health minister - Jonathan Ashman. His false distain for the Tory immigration policy was so ridiculous it's worth another look if you didn't see it. Sorry I'm no good at links.

Evening all, just dropping in briefly to say thank you to our new Landlady, XingMing, and to make a comforting hot chocolate. Money's behind the bar.

I saw the Jonathan Thingy interview on Sophie Ridge this morning and he did indeed grate. She was asking a valid question and all he could do was try and drown her out with his tinkly little laugh.

Turning in now but I'm glad I found this. Busy tomorrow but I'll pop in at some point. À bientôt!

Evening, Walkingdeadfangirl! I'd watch it now but DH will grumble. He's just nodding off. Will watch it tomorrow though. Sleep well!

Funny picture. Only one of them is hiding a security report into Russia though and it isn't Corbyn.

Glad the article about the working class resonated.😊
Damn that video Walkingdeadfangirl 😮 Corbyn went from zero to hundred in seconds. Considering it was channel four famed for their "impartiality" makes it even stranger as they are usually sympathetic to woke parties. As a fellow human I do hope Corbyn is ok , he seems stressed ☹

Ooh congratulations on the pub Xing 🚩🌹🚩🌹🚩

When Boris Met Jennifer
Just watched the C4 'Exposure' and was like, is that it, whats new? Seems they have zero actual evidence and are just throwing mud to see what sticks. I guess that is why they put it out at 11 pm.

I wish residents of this pub would realise that plenty of people who voted Remain despise Jeremy Corbyn. He's a Lexiteer (among other things). He isn't "the opposition to Brexit ". Quite the opposite. I know you are all Johnson fans but you would get your goal with Corbyn- and other stuff Wink

Not a ‘Johnson fan’ at all. None of them are fit to govern the Uk as it deserves, not a single, venal, self-serving one of them.

Sorry, got some shit going on in rl, making me a bit short.

I’ve been despairing of UK politics for quite some time now, even before the referendum and it’s just not getting any better from what I can see. My hope is for a small Phoenix to rise out of the ashes of all this. Yes, it will take time and not be stable or pleasant but I can’t see any solution for it not to be, based on the antics of the politicians.
A cross-party govt would be best but even that’s morphed into sulking and Violet Elizabeth Swinson putting herself up as frontsperson.
Meanwhile, the Civil Service is no doubt just plodding along in the background doing their best, like they always have.

Cheers, bellini. It will all pan out. Brew Just felt bad for swooping into a shiny new thread and snapping.
Maybe treating it all as a circus is a futile thing to do. I mean, nothing’s going to change unless we change our politicians is it?

Morning all Brew
Off to work.
Wanting Johnson to win is not always about Brexit Bellini, sometimes it's just to stop Corbyn. In fact mostly I would guess.

Discussing it with dh before he went off to work (starts earlier than you MeganBacon) - whichever if them loses will face dumping by their party. And whichever of them wins will cock it up.
Win win. In a ghastly kind of way.
I start work after the school run.

Morning Brew

I'm not a BJ fan really - I've said before I think he's right for now but the jury is out for me at the mo regarding the longer term.

For me Bellini, Labour (on Brexit), Corbyn & Corbyn's Labour are separate issues.

Corbyn = twat. Don't trust him, hate him, hate his ideology, terrible leader (this opinion of Corbz I think cuts across all Brexit & party lines)

Labour (on Brexit) = the party of duplicitous Remain. Paying lip service to respecting & implementing the ref - blatant master plan is to offer remain vs remain in another ref & call it democracy whilst crippling the country further with indecision.

Corbyn's Labour = fantasy politics, dangerous ideology, the party of 'educated, middle class lefties' now rather than for all, riven with infighting, riddled with antisemitism & not an effective opposition (a massive turn off for non-tribal voters)

I'd be genuinely stuck & probably wouldn't vote at all tbh if Corbyn's Labour were the only party promising to deliver Brexit.
My hatred of him, his ideology & the current direction of Labour is so great that no amount of nose holding would suffice.

Agree too with this from Saucery:

The election pact stuff is a bit off as well.
I get it, that it's all about Brexit, & that it's completely understandable & pragmatic, but there's only 3 candidates in my constituency this year: Tory, Labour & Lib Dem

For a brexiter who hates Tories under BJ, there's nothing
For a remainer who hates Labour & Lib Dem under Corbyn/Swinson, there's nothing

Not even a protest vote option

So it's spoilt ballot or don't vote - which is shocking in a supposed democracy

I took the time to read John Gray's opinion piece. The thing that gave me the fit of giggles was the Boris Johnson 'lets them be patriotic and feel good about life' bit in the link headline. You have to agree out of context it sounds gloriously condescending ? So I read the piece for context. I think John Gray is a very clever man.

No big love for Labour or Corbyn here. I still don't quite grasp how after nearly 10 years of Austerity, people who have been effected would suddenly think, oh the Conservatives have my best interests at heart ? Maybe someone who is making the switch from voting Labour to Conservative could explain ? Or is this election primarily about Brexit ? In many ways that would make a lot more sense as nobody, not even Labour appear to know exactly what their Brexit policy is Smile
