Westministenders: Slow News Fake News

Things have been slow whilst we are in proroguation, ahead of next weeks Queen's Speech and the EU summit.

We've been in full spin mode, from the likes of the far right and an unnamed source at No.10.

People seem to be waking up to the reality that its highly unlikely we will get a deal now, unless something significant. And No.10 has worked out the NI problem. FINALLY.

Anyway, if you have a little time this week and you are interested in the history of where technology change and fake news meet and how where we are now is merely things repeating themselves, Ian Hislop's Fake News: A True History, is essential viewing.

I really feel strongly this is stuff that should be being taught in schools somehow as its what protects us from extremism.

Oh, I think I more or less missed an entire thread. Oopsblush

Earliest ever PMK!

Hanging around waiting for DS's delayed flight from Berlin. Should have been landing now, but hasn't taken off yet angry.

Thanks for your fantastic work on our behalf, Red. And to all the posters on here helping to save our mental health.

PMK with one more thank you to add to the thousands of thank yous to RTB .

I'm actually sitting waiting for the AA! But the DC and I are nice and calm -because really a dodgy car is a minor issue compared to our national crisis.

Filling the thread with a pmk

Yay - I posted the first cat of the thread.

kingsassassin Wed 09-Oct-19 18:54:57

Evening all. Pmk without cat as he is too embarrassed by the collar of shame.

ListeningQuietly Wed 09-Oct-19 18:55:16

Tomorrow is World Mental Health Day.

A week on Saturday is a historic sitting of Parliament
mixed with an anti Brexit March in London
hopefully it will be the biggest yet

After that, who knows

DGRossetti Wed 09-Oct-19 18:57:19

(from last thread)

What is the provenance of the second photo DGR?

Not quite sure - I subscribe to a lot of fora which in turn are populated by disparate entities. If I see something posted I snatch and repost.

DGRossetti Wed 09-Oct-19 18:59:38

Is there a Euro party "Golden Dawn" ?

They do know it's origins hmm OTO ?

Disheartened PMK. Here's hoping something positive happens soon.

23Squared Wed 09-Oct-19 19:12:43

Wait.. when you say No !0 has worked out the NI problem - do you mean the EU offer of five years backstop and both communities can opt out after that or do you mean they have figured out it is A PROBLEM?

TheMShip Wed 09-Oct-19 19:14:32

"My quest for the perfect anchovy" grin

I am crying with laughter over the juxtaposition with the dramatic silhouette.

Oh and PMK.

Apileofballyhoo Wed 09-Oct-19 19:16:20

Can any of you ladies lend me a cat for the evening. There is a mouse running around under my sofa. Getting a cat for myself may be next week's job.
i am trying to avoid posting much, or spending too much time looking at Brexit so this is my 'go to' thread. Please don't say when the Pound plumets any further as most of the other Brexit news is bad enough.

Thanks red. Hunkering down in my brexit bunker.

HesterThrale Wed 09-Oct-19 19:43:57

Thanks Red. Sorry no cats here!

Whatever happens over the next 3 weeks I’m so grateful that I found this thread 3 years ago. Without it I’d have felt fairly alone in my anxiety and disillusionment about how things have gone. But it has been a source of comfort to know there are many like-minded people around.

Strangely I now feel a little positive that a waft of sanity might be gaining ground...
