Brexit

Am I the only one?

I have been reading with interest all the threads on this board. Am I the only who cannot believe the tone, content and the sheer catastrophe thinking about this issue? Reading threads about stockpiling and falling out with family and friends over this strikes me as strange. Historically, there a many, many more events that have had a humanitarian impact on the world ... Brexit is not one of these! There may, or may not, be an economic impact of Brexit, but will people die? Get killed? Be oppressed? There needs to be some perspective here.

Brexit is not one of these!

How do you know? It hasn't happened yet.

No it hasn’t! But do you seriously put it up there with grave humanitarian disasters?

I take it you haven't been personally affected yet then...

Also there is a big difference between surviving a humanitarian disaster which was unavoidable and actually causing one!

No, you’re not the only one who counties to insist this whole mess isn’t really happening.

But trying to insist no one will die, when even the government acknowledge medicines and cancer treatment isotopes are going to be massively disrupted, makes you, at best naive.

Work-wise we have been affected. Exchange rates have affected me also ... but this is no-where near the scale of the risk to life and limb that would justify some of the sentiment on this board!

If BoJo continues to push with his "do or die" exit from the EU on 31st October and utterly shits all over the GFA in doing so then yes, it is very possible that people in Northern Ireland will die.

@timeforakinderworld I can’t how Brexit is akin to a humanitarian disaster

I'm just glad we have no type 1 diabetics in the family, or people with life threatening illness dependent on medication. As it is, I'm struggling to get each month's HRT.

So how far does it need to go OP?

  • what happens when those who rely on say insulin can’t get it?

  • what happens when cancer treatment with half lives which mean it can’t be delayed, gets delayed?

  • or to those who are barely getting by when food prices increase?

And all for what?

BearBehind nobody counties anything.
This is the worst thing to happen to Britain since the Bubonic Plague in 1666. We're doomed I tell you, absolutely doomed. The sky will fall in, the whole world as we know it will completely come to an end when Britain leaves the EU, if it ever does!Pestilence and plagues will blight the whole land. There will be a massive gnashing of teeth, shrieking, wailing and it's going to be catastrophic.I tell you we're all doomed.
Climate change is far more important but try telling that to those who really want to stay in the EU
No op you're not alone

Preaching about climate change on a parenting website is beyond hypocritical.

By far the worst thing anyone can do to increase climate change is to add to the population.

No one is perfect - look at your own actions before condemning others.

@Aberhonddu am with you here. We and the rest of Europe are developed nations that have the wherewithal to deal with the political fallout of whatever deal or no deal that gets agreed!

Brexit is 100% avoidable and the product of a very small number of very wealthy individuals who want to protect their status and a slightly larger number of deluded individuals who need someone/thing to blame for everything.

Climate change is global and all encompassing and ultimately will lead to a decimation of the human population.

Spot the difference?

There is a lot of unknowns ... will we all starve, no , but will there be shortages and price rises of things we take for granted, yes. The situation with medicines is a lot more worrying, we don't take prescription drugs but my friend's insulin comes from Germany, he will die without it

I agree that any deal/no deal/negotiations need to address issues with the supply of critical medications. We have had close relationships with our European cousins for decades. Do you think they will let people die or suffer due to red tape in the interim?

It’s not their problem.

We chose this.

I have not declared myself as a leaver or a remainer. I believe in humanity.

@Bearbehind I think that there will be a duty if care

@GreyGardens88 don’t really know how to respond to this!

What you should be asking is whether the British government are prepared to let people die.

Yes. Medication aside, Leavers and politicians are prepared to fuck over the people of Northern Ireland by reneging on the GFA. Maybe you'll care about that when the bombs come over to the mainland again. I say the mainland because you obviously have t thought about NI or don't give a shit so perhaps when it's closer to home you might sit up and take notice.

I can't believe you are so ignorant of the impact of no deal on the people of the UK. The poor, the chronically ill, the vulnerable, the EU nationals. Have you been living in outer space for the past 3 years?

Yabu because natural disasters can't be helped, but this is self-inflicted - or inflicted by half the population on an unwilling other half. It's so unnecessary.
