wow heated, you dont have much respect for the Irish do you?
I dont think building a UK city to house the northern Irish is the answer to the Irish question! jeez! Look at all the areas this kind of forced mass migration has occurred to prove it's not a great model to follow let alone any human rights issues.
The only positive I can see about Brexit happening at present is that at least it will be done and dusted and politics can then move on. Though with the chaos and amount of new laws that it will need I think it will tie up parliament for the foreseeable.
This should never have been put to the public. % difference between the votes should have been made legal for any change to occur. Oh to be able to wind back the clock....

I am respecting the NI who will not want to be part of the RoI who see themselves as British, they can return to the land of their ancestors and be gifted a city.

I am respecting those in NI who see themselves as Irish and offerings compensation to the Island of Ireland for taking on NI.

importing less food and drink for a start

Trading, rather than consuming only what we produce ourselves , is very much a routine part of everyday life. It is no very likely that we will import less. More likely that out imputes will come from further away, increasing the environmental damage and other costs

Importing less food and drink

Such as?

Our increased consumption of home-produced dairy products will be more than wiped out by the loss of exports. Ditto meat, especially lamb.

Regards fish, almost all our cod comes from Greenland and Iceland. Our trawlers pull in hake, whiting and coley which no one in UK will touch, never mind whelks and sea urchins. (Yum Yum?)

Fruit and veg are highly seasonal. Making up for mediterranean production by covering the nation in plastic will cost a bomb. And yes, we have no bananas. We have no bananas at all.

On the plus side, more turnips.

Enough turnips currently running the country.

Crown reduction - I am happy to continue with a small public fund to support the monarch. I don't see an elected politician working better so stick with what we have. I just don't want so many hangers on, like Harry, no need for him now. I don't want the RF being custodians and beneficiaries of crown land and buildings, it should be returned.

This is pure gold.
Who knew that having a RF with "hangers on" like the monarch's grandchildren was a result of being in the EU?
Do you think the French, Austrians, Germans, Slovaks, Czechs et al. didn't read the memo, or are they blatantly flouting an EU directive?

Your plans for Ireland are genius, too. Can't think why no one thought of an Irish city before. Have you planned a name for it? Where would it be located?

Some things need to be taken seriously, some not so much.

Lots of grief stricken and anxious people here which is understandable.

Only one person gets to decide, Boris Johnson and most of us did not vote for him.

Ask a question then all pile on a Mumsnet thread thread!

People can't help having a lower IQ than others all very elitist this pride in superior brain power narcissism stuff, ignorant bliss seems like a happier life for some!

I don’t really remember anything about the royal family coming up during the leave/remain vote ?

Genuinely interested if this is something that just passed me by during the referendum campaign and motivated your voting decision or is it a just a by product you can see happening because of the leave result ?

I must have very inferior brain power indeed, as I don't understand the above.

A border in the Irish Sea would be a great solution. Unfortunately the DUP rejected it, and as there's no brexit at all if the DUP don't help the Conservative party, it was agreed that it would be along the border.

I think food prices will increase, at least for a while (though how long is a while?!).
People might change their eating habits - ie rather eat a veggie meal than chlorinated chicken.
Low £ vs € might mean people holiday in the UK or cheaper non EU places like Egypt, or not at all.
I think people will spend less on 'fun'/extra curricular activities/clothes shopping etc.

What activities do you see becoming the new norm to fight off a dull life?

I think we'll have a boost to diversity admire immigrants from outside the EU will come to work here as a result of trade deals opening our borders. We'll have to give way a lot & will need the workers.

I meant people will be feeling the pinch and DC might have to cut down on extra-curricular activities like sport/music.

Though I suppose people might discover new hobbies like going for lots of long walks or enjoy learning to cook different things (like Swede) they wouldn't have bought pre-brexit.

I used to love customising/up cycling clothes when I was a teenager. I might take it up again.

So a potential loss of community activities and increased unemployment in the after school activities sector.

More solo time?

I thought everyone cooked swede, isn't it part of the Sunday roast!

And on a more serious note we waste tonnes of food a year in this country which we could eat, so maybe it might make us think about our eating habits and what a wasteful country we have become.

On MN it is never the 'remoaners' who start with the 'thick, racist' shit. It is always the Brexshitters (as we're name-calling) who are first on the thread talking about thick racists.

Is this thread for real?

Fewer Irish on the roads?
A special city for people from NI?
Getting rid of Harry?
More long walks?

Seriously? What the actual gibbering fuck, people?

Socially-engineered relocation of people en masse has always gone so well in the past. Can't think what would possibly go wrong with that idea.
