1 in 3 chance the economy will contract!
Prices up at the petrol stations from next week
Food prices going up already!

I absolutely despair!

I haven't even got a question other than WTAF are we doing to our Country? ☹️

That's on top of the 4 billion already spent/earmarked!

I've just seen the other thread with just about the same title!
10 years of austerity this Govt has put us all through!

For what?

People elected the conservative government back then despite knowing they had an austerity driven agenda. Then re-elected them twice over.
Mark Carney is always pessimistic and doesn't always get it right. Bit of a
bob actually.
Just my opinion though x

Well, I guess a certain percentage of those voters believed it was for the National good & the nonsense about reducing the deficit!

I don't believe anyone thought it would be pissed against the wall in 90 days of panic preparation for something we don't even need to do in the first place!

"Then re-elected them twice over. " the Tories don't have a majority. They are propped up the UK version of the US Tea Party sect.

Oh yes the 1bn they paid the DUP to keep them in power! I'd forgotten about that!

So add that to the 2.4bn and the 4bn so we're at 7.4bn!

And that's just the lump sums - and we haven't even left yet!

where has this money suddenly come from? the taxpayers as usual and the austerity which was forced on us. Schools, hospitals, prisons, local communities, carehomes etc. etc. etc. all closing and having their budgets cut whilst all along there was money in the pot.
bloody disgraceful.

I agree with this 100%.
These politicians always find the money when it suits. Same as if they decide to go to war. I work in a school and the cuts are tragic..

I'm sure it will all be fine in the end. We will be!! Smile

The financial sector played fast and loose and caused the biggest recession in living memory but it was the so called 'feckless poor' who had to pay for it all via austerity. Now suddenly they can find BILLIONS, always the way!!

Tories were fiscal conservatives.
I am a fiscal conservative.
Now they found a magic money tree as long as they can buy off voters who would ditch them for BxP.
Got rid of the one and only thing I could consistently support Tories for...

^this

Contracting public sector spend ignores the fact that by spending, a government can stimulate the economy and this results in growth which benefits everyone. Running a government budget just is not like running a household budget. That’s nonsense. And naive.

Instead this government has carved back the state and pumped billions into the financial services sector. This has only benefited those with capital assets and no one else.

That’s why the top 1% continue to get richer and richer at the expense of everyone else.

It’s disgusting.

Brexit is appalling because it doesn’t tackle the underlying problems with our current capitalist model.

People just don’t realise that so much money has been given to the banks and to what end?

99% of us just don’t benefit. And haven’t benefitted for a long time. People realise that but are directing their fear and anger to the wrong place (the EU and immigration).

Until someone can explain that then we continue down this path.

10 years of austerity this Govt has put us all through!

To be fair - the EU Commission/Council did keep sending the UK recommendations and warnings under the Excessive Deficit Procedure - up until the end of 2017.

"The Excessive Deficit Procedure"

"Member States which run excessive budget deficits of more than 3% of GDP, or which fail to reduce their excessive debts (above 60% of GDP) at a sufficient pace, follow a particular set of rules known as the Excessive Deficit Procedure (EDP)."

"Under the EDP, Member States commit to targets to bring their excessive deficits or debts back to safe levels. They also face the possibility of warnings and ultimately sanctions, such as fines that can reach 0.2% of their GDP, if they persistently fail to take adequate action to address their deficits or debts.Regional subsidies from the EU’s ‘cohesion fund’ may also be withheld."

whilst all along there was money in the pot
The higher tax receipts/lower debt interest repayments were not forecast by the OBR in March 2018 - the 'windfall' in autumn 2018 was a pleasant surprise. Philip Hammond did announce extra spending on public services (plus universal credit) in his autumn budget - as have Javid/Johnson.

Anyone else think that BoJo knows that Brexit is impossible and is going about making it look as unattractive as possible so we all revolt?

Because the announcements in the last week are beyond stupid.

Calm down myoctupus. You don't have to come across as so aggressive just because some are trying to be positive.
We are where we are. And everyone is entitled to a voice even if you don't agree.

But the injustice that has been foisted on people in this Country, the poverty that people have suffered, universal credit, the loss of children's centres, libraries , extra years at work for millions of people who could have previously retired, the people who haven't had a pay rise in 10 years, the cuts to schools, the Military, all that stuff

And then the best part of £8bn is flushed down the toilet in the blink of an eye! Does that not even make you slightly cross?

To just say we'll be fine ' smiley face' seems a little bit glib!

BelleSausage I sort of agree - I always thought Bojo might actually Revoke article 50 at the last minute and then convince us that he'd saved us all from a horrible Nrecit but I hope he's not going to spend billions in the process!

And I am feeling quite aggressive because I'm so bloody angry at the stupidity of it all!
Anyway I'm going to skip the 10.00 o'clock news otherwise I'll be raging again!

3 years post Brexit people will be looking back to now and remembering the good old days of the 2010’s
