Interesting!

Same old same old, or is this actually news?!

I suppose it's 'news' but difficult to see how it actually resolves anything as the 2 new PM candidates say the UK is going out.
The EU are going to need considerable reassurance that a majority in the UK actually want to remain, and thus far there is nothing overwhelming either way.

Seems like it is a shift, the Guardian seems to be writing it up that way, with the caveat that if Labour wins a snap GE then Labour would continue to negotiate leaving with the EU. This apparently raises the prospect of Labour winning a GE, then continuing negotiations to leave but having previously publicly committed to campaigning for Remain, so therefore campaigning against the deal their own negotiators make?!

It is only of relevance if there is a GE before the UK leaves, and the choice of this is still in the air (like most things).

From the Guardian write up it sounds like a fudge. Just how many GEs have to be lost by parties espousing a form of Brexit for them to get the message that this isn't what the country wants?

"What do we want?" "Er well, we don't quite know."
"When do we want it?" "Er, not sure about that either."

Fudge. Still not enough for me to hold my nose and vote Labour while that twat is in charge.

What has actually changed about the Labour policy?!

I thought their position was already to campaign for a GE but accept a referendum if that wasn’t possible. I suppose they are now saying that they wouldn’t campaign for a Tory deal in such a referendum, but would they ever have campaigned for it?

It’s just window dressing that will solve nothing for Labour.... they will still be seen as a party that fudges Brexit.

Only to those Remainer Labour supporters who are desperate to convince people of it.... And Brexiteers who will use it as a stick to beat it.

Can anyone explain to me how no deal was "legislated against" a few months ago. Seems that was totally meaningless.

HoC 'legislating' anything doesn't overrule the international legal position of leaving without a deal if a deal can't be negotiated. From a global viewpoint it is just internal politics and largely meaningless.

Thanksfor clarifying. so it was all meaningless and hot air? What a fucking waste of time and effort.

To the 'world view' yes, but for UK internal consumption id indicates something although there is so much desperate game playing going on, it just adds to the confusion.
At the end of the day, or more accurately midnight 31 October EU time, the PM has to present the EU negotiators a note that says the UK wants to Revoke, or with an accompanying signed WA document say it wants to leave, or failing that say it wishes to leave without a transition period (crash out).
HOW the UK gets to this decision is up to the UK.

So I I still want to remain I vote not-Tory and not-Labour. Got it.

@crankysaurus SNP/Greens/LibDem/Change. Any of those. Hopefully when it comes to it they will do an election deal and not take votes off each other until normal service is resumed Confused

Cant see a coalition of 5 parties ever happening. Imagine trying to get 5 parties to make a common policy that ensures voters not shifting between the 5 parties?

The seat system of GE always seems to penalize the smaller parties too.

All it needs is for everyone to back off and leave it to the Lib Dems for now(I don't like the Lib Dems but I dislike No Deal more). This is happening in the by-election. There are no other issues. Just Brexit.

Desperate measures from a desperate party

It's way too grown up for electorate to stomach, but I would love the free-vote suggestion I heard of recently:

Declare Brexit is a non-party issue & let each MP campaign on their own personal position.

How in earth would help anything! it’s complicated enough without 650 different Brexit opinions!

Everyone is going to have to compromise in the end. Admitting that, putting the fact front & centre, is quite mature.
