Does anybody know, or have links that explain, what preparations the govt are making for no deal?

bellinisurge Mon 08-Jul-19 19:24:07

They've been cagey about the details for ordinary people but there have been various notices for businesses on gov.uk

CrunchyCarrot Mon 08-Jul-19 19:29:13

A BBC Panorama program on that very topic tonight, BBC1 at 8:30 p.m.

Thank you!

Apparently if we all just believe in it, it’ll all be finehmm

Socksontheradiator Mon 08-Jul-19 19:42:19

@lonelyeah indeed! I just saw on bbc website that civil servants are being moved around to prepare for no deal, but I can't find anything that says what they are actually doing. Or if they are doing or just talking confused

Socksontheradiator Mon 08-Jul-19 19:43:03

@Lonelycrab sorry

bellinisurge Mon 08-Jul-19 19:45:02

I'm guessing it's better than our very worst fears but not as good as it should be. Up to now, talking about it was unpatriotic. I suspect that whoever the new leader is will turn that around and make it unpatriotic NOT to talk about it. Wading through the hyperbole there might eventually be useful (if inadequate) info for ordinary people.

I guess ...
...govt has various plans to put into operation, like chartering boats that will import medicines

...lots of awareness raising among larger employers to ask them to make own plans, and responsiveness to queries.

...Logistics of Operation Stack Magnified x 10,000

..A range of draft guidance documents already written & to be issued quickly depending on what tariff regime UK would impose (from none to EU-clone)

All they need is TWO+ disasters to strike at the same time, though, like a storm & a powercut on the day of crashing out, & everything will fall to bits.

What concerns me is that no deal preps will of course be costly, and businesses will understandably be reluctant to spend money on something that is not yet definite.

I expect Mark Carney is buying up solid currencies like... Zimbabwean dollars or even Bolivars to mediate the impact of inflation.

I work for the MoD, in the run up to the original date for leaving with no deal we deployed lots of Military and Civil Servants to other Govt departments to help with no deal planning but they all came back when we delayed until October.

I have seen no evidence of them of deploying again - yet!

I've downloaded the Panorama programme and will try to watch it over lunch and after tea tonight because I am a nerd . DH can't watch anything like this because it upsets him. Good job I'm a general prepper grin

Socksontheradiator Tue 09-Jul-19 18:56:19

I'm just watching it now.
Anyone seen it yet? What did you think?

bellinisurge Tue 09-Jul-19 19:03:21

On my list of things to watch.

Socksontheradiator Tue 09-Jul-19 19:30:29

I'm none the wiser.
Although if I hadn't been following threads on here I think it would have come as quite a shock.
Uncertainty seems to be the key word.

bellinisurge Tue 09-Jul-19 20:05:28

Watched it. Wetherspoons guy sounded pissed. Maybe it's a health thing that makes him sound pissed.
The NI dairy farmer (Leave voter) sounded desperate for a deal.
I didn't see anything I haven't seen or heard elsewhere but that's because I am a nerd.
In short: are you happy to risk No Deal, not just for you but for everyone else.

Socksontheradiator Tue 09-Jul-19 20:14:18

I thought he sounded pissed too!
