I despair, not content with doing Nazi style rally, the Brexit party did what the Nazis did in the Reichstag today in the EU parliament.

Doing a sterling job helping the UK with international relations prior to trade negotiations hmm.

Its shaming.

They have done it before. I think it is shameful and childish.

It's an embarrassment

They're not acting in the country's best interest. Actually actively working against the UK. Can't believe my sister voted for them.

Why the hell were the EU members standing to a national anthem, the EU is not a country, therefore an anthem is very misplaced. I am confused as to why they would ever do it. By all means play the national anthems of each country that make up the EU, but the EU is not a nation or country in its own right (even if it seems to think it is)

The next bloodbath is the next president. The circus continues.

Theworldisfullofgs Tue 02-Jul-19 16:56:33

I think you missed the point barefoot

The anthem is a way for them all EU members to be united. I like the anthem.

twofingerstoEverything Tue 02-Jul-19 18:54:08

'Anthem' is not synonymous with 'national anthem'. HTH.

twofingerstoEverything Tue 02-Jul-19 18:57:18

You can say that again.
See my post above. You don't have to be a nation to have an anthem.

Lambbuffet Tue 02-Jul-19 19:03:37

@TheRealTitaniaMcGrath are you talking about just The Brexit Party or do you include The Lib dems display of shame too?

timeandtimeagain42 Tue 02-Jul-19 19:08:16

I feel quite embarrassed to be British today. It was a shocking and childish display all round. What were they thinking?

barefootluxury Tue 02-Jul-19 19:10:31

At least the Brexit party didn’t swan in with expletives printed all over them.

barefootluxury Tue 02-Jul-19 19:11:04

I am much much more embarrassed of the Liberal Democrat’s. Outrageous.

1tisILeClerc Tue 02-Jul-19 19:14:26

You need to get over yourself.

barefootluxury Tue 02-Jul-19 19:16:01

Asking MEPs to stand to any anthem is utterly ridiculous.
The EU is not a nation, and note many of those that didn’t turn refused to stand, and remained seated were not even connected to the Brexit party.

The EU needs to remember it’s a gathering of nation states, not a superstate in its own right.

It still is the case
Remainers are acutely afraid of change
Brexiteers are acutely desperate for change.

Hopefully the last EU parliament we will ever take part in, so don’t stress op.

lonelyplanetmum Tue 02-Jul-19 19:17:50

Beyond embarrassed- being paid (a lot) to do a job. Then turning your back on it from the outset.

It's shameful.

A party with a leader who sucks up to obscene Donald Trump in a servile, fawning way. But then snubs other countries and their many respected hard working politicians. Shameful.

1tisILeClerc Tue 02-Jul-19 19:23:52

{Brexiteers are acutely desperate for change. }

Well with BoJo or Hunt at the helm you will certainly get a change, but I am pretty sure you won't like it.
So far neither of them have managed to suggest how improvements that Leavers might want can happen.

twofingerstoEverything Tue 02-Jul-19 19:32:15

The EU is not a nation

FFS, barefoot. NOBODY has said it is. You're embarrassing yourself now.

Crunchiecheesecake Tue 02-Jul-19 19:56:38

According to MNetters the only thing the Lib dems did wrong was their choice of colour for their tshirts, yellow not being a good choice.
Taking this advice onboard I suggest The Brexit Party take this fun line of protest and arrive wearing T-shirt’s with B0ll0cks to the EU. They’ll be no criticism as long as they don’t wear yellow.

timeandtimeagain42 Tue 02-Jul-19 20:23:21

@Crunchiecheesecake where have you read that then? Personally, although I do agree with the Lib Dem sentiment, I think the t shirt was also childish and unprofessional. Between them they have succeeded in making us even more of a laughing stock than we already were. Fabulous!!

notangelinajolie Tue 02-Jul-19 20:31:13

I think the yellow t-shirt brigade were worse.

Oakenbeach Tue 02-Jul-19 20:31:45

Do you feel this strongly about the Olympic anthem when it’s played at the opening/closing ceremony?

Agree that LibDems t-shirts were embarrassing too in a different way
