So just tell them that Brexit will make Corbyn become the PM. Simples!

{When have the Tories ever cared about Scotland...............}

When they wanted to know the results from the 'testing area'.

They really are thick as shit aren’t they.

If the Tories deliver a hard Brexit and screw the country they will be put on their ear anyway

I explained about euroatom to a Tory/brexiters family member recently, about what would happen under no deal to radiotherapy services in the UK and about how the Royal College of Radiotherapists had alerted the government that there would be many deaths if we weren't a member, and my family member looked me in the eye and said it was a price worth paying for our freedom from the EU .🤯

Will this family member still sing the same tune if anyone close to them gets cancer, or will it just be one of those things?

The stupidity of some people just does not bear thinking about.

If there was any justice it would be those who say it’s a price worth paying that are the ones who get cancer.

It’s it awful that this is what we’ve descended to.

I would not wish cancer on anyone having lost two grandparents to it, DH's cousin and close friends. But I really think that those who think that the EU is so terrible that it's worse than not being able to access cancer treatment are fools.

Not that everyone chooses radiotherapy - some decide to turn it down in favour of monitoring the situation, but at present that is a choice; it won't be a choice if its not available. Or only available to those wealthy enough to go abroad for treatment.

That person was my father... I asked him was my life or the life of his granddaughter worth it and surprise surprise he said it's project fear and the government would never let it happen, only a matter of months before I was diagnosed with a fairly serious precancerous condition which needs regular treatment, I have to question weather we are related..

It's like they have joined a fucking cult.

Report
Peregrina · 18/06/2019 19:20

Sorry to hear that rosie. Hope your treatment goes well. BIL has just been treated for cancer, so far so good, and I felt mighty glad that Brexit hadn't happened and the treatment was still available.

I wonder what Arlene's thinking looking at how much the Tory members value the union with NI?

I seriously believe that the quest for Brexit is akin to a cult. All rational thinking has gone and you just cannot reason with people about the consequences because they really don't care they just want Brexit at any cost. Part of me feels that the only way to fix this is to actually leave.

I know people like this who are desperate for No Deal. One of them has just been diagnosed with a very serious life-threatening illness. I feel sick knowing the consequences of No Deal in relation to this illness, but they think it's all Project Fear. They were perfectly fine with the idea of a Norway style relationship prior to the referendum. Now it's No Deal is the only way. They've been radicalised.

Even my own mother is spouting bullshit about 'We didn't win the war to be told what to do by the EU!'. (She can't name a single law passed that has had an adverse effect on her life though). Radicalised. So upsetting.

It's important to remember that most older Tories are the Children of the wartime generation - baby boomers. Their parents protected them from the reality of WWII and post war rationing. They have never known anything other than the Welfare State. I'm at the tail end of the baby boomer generation and grew up watching uplifting War films on wet Sundays on BBC2. Adventures and noble hearts. Great stuff.
It was only when my parents were at the end of their lives that they opened up about the reality of WWII and post war austerity. My Mum's final vote was for Remain. She had, in her time, abstained from voting or voted Tory (and once for UKIP in their first GE).

KennDodd · 19/06/2019 21:45

I'm sure I've seen some research saying that the WW2 generation, so about 90+ voted Remain at a similar percentage as under 25s. I'll see if I can find it.

My now 96 year old MIL voted Remain (all our other parents had passed away). This is despite reading the Daily Mail.

DH says he voted Remain but is now a Lexiter and says that left wing Leavers have no one to vote for. Yes they do - Labour, but he won't hear that this is at best a fence sitting party, not a Remain party.

DF used to talk about the war - he lived in Hull for part of it - he said they were bombed night after night because the bombers would go over, miss their target and on the return see the city lit up by the Humber Estuary and wham, dump their load. He said it never made the news. People were utterly sick of it.

DM talked about how butchers especially would chop their fingers off rather than give you half an ounce more meat - often known as little Hitlers.

Oh yes, the war was fun! To be fair, I think MIL had a good war - she was married by the time they called her age group up, and she had good quality, interesting and well paid war work. Most of the family who fought returned - so they were relatively lucky .But I have never heard her eulogise about how wonderful it was.

Nope - I don't recall any of my parents or grandparents, all of whom lived (some fought) through WW2 (one fought in WW1) who ever, ever said those Wars, or any War, were a good thing at all; if anything, War was discussed, if ever, in negative terms.

Maybe that is why I've upheld Peace as the paramount thing since I can remember, and later, as I got to know the younger Uncles, surviving Aden, Korea and Vietnam and then the friends, surviving NI, Iran, Afghanistan....the EU hasn't stopped it really...just created another border to defend and fight for.

It's either a truly borderless world or one made up of many, many countries - no blocs, no federations - just places with people that live there. The EU counters that ideal and doesn't forward it.

It's absolutely crazy!
The 61% who are willing to risk a serious economic downturn will no doubt be protected in their wealthy bubble. Selfish twats.

And the break up of the UK. I follow Vote Leave on FB I'm not surprised by the survey at all. Leavers (most I know or see ol) don't give a shit about the peace in NI either.
