Not because I'm keeping a list of who has food for when the shit hits the fan... Just because I'm a nosy bitch.

Here's mine - I started adding to it a few weeks ago. It's only me and almost 5yo DS I really have to worry about so I feel its almost there.

Mines too scattered around the house.
Impressive. Thanks for the photo.

Have 18 toilet rolls in the bathroom - not sure whether to add more?

I'd get more toilet roll. It is not something you would want to run it of. Orange juice is a good idea. I hadn't thought of that but would be useful if it is hard to get fruit. What are the white and red packets on the right?

Microwave rice - I also have normal bags of rice

no way! people might find my bacardi stock too overwhelmingly appealling and try to hunt me down...

I might have had my head in the clouds about all of this.

But why the need?

Report
cloudtree · 08/02/2019 09:54

Mine is currently scattered.

@SPR1107 the need is to ensure that if there are the predicted supply chain problems which prevent shops from having stock then you can feed your family without having to try to find what you need elsewhere. Its forward purchasing. Only buy things you will use up anyway so nothing is wasted if everything does run smoothly (fingers crossed). Buy it now whilst the shops have plenty of stock and whilst their just in time supply systems ensure that whatever you buy will have been restocked within a couple of days. Everyone's a winner.

Re orange juice - lidl cartons currently have December dates on them so no harm at all in buying lots now since you would have plenty of time to use it up.

Could I suggest vitamins if you don't have them plus an easter egg for DS if you do Easter.

mine is hidden away too.

there is the normal food cupboard, then some extra places. treats have been put somewhere difficult to get at otherwise I would be stockpiling those around my middle.
ds's room will be the only room without anything in as I am having to empty that to decorate and get a new carpet fitted at some point.

I have to buy loads more sanpro and loo roll.

my cupboard looked lovely as I was filling it, but then the top layer of balancing bits and bobs on the tins happened and it looks messy again.

My worksurface is covered with food that needs using up on short date so we are doing that.

I’ve been buying extra packs of meat too and putting them in the freezer (we have a spare one in the garage). Like someone said upthread, to me, it’s forward buying, we will use everything anyway, so hopefully, I’ve just bought everything in advance and keeping my fingers crossed we won’t need it because of supply issues.
Do you have treats in there? (Although I think they are party rings in the blue packets at the front). I had to reevaluate my box of stuff as it was a bit treat heavy Blush

So how long are we preparing to stockpile for? Until the current suppliers sort their customs paperwork out? As presumably they don’t want to lose our custom. Or until competitors from outside the EU get in there first? I wonder how long I should prepare for?

So I have 12 red and 12 white arrived from the wine merchant ... and 10kg of sushi rice. Actually I ordered a 20kg bag of strong white flour yesterday, I make my own bread (sometimes) and they had a special offer, must pick up yeast though.

My first time on the actual brexit board.(I've been in a few in the AIBU board though) you're very organised! I started a stock after seeing it on the AIBU bored. My stock is in the garage on the top shelf of my cupboard and in 2 small empty drawers in my bedroom so I can't photograph it I'm nowhere near done either. We're a family of 5 though so I barely have a weeks worth of food. I am also buying extra frozen chicken too as my 15 month old eats lots of chicken he's quite a picky eater I'm quite worried about him to be honest.

Is this really necessary?!

Report
Morgan12 · 09/02/2019 07:47

No.

Report
bellinisurge · 09/02/2019 07:50

@Ellabella989 , if you watch the news and you are completely confident that everything is going to be fine and there is not even the slightest possibility that there will be bumpiness in the food supply or that prices will not go up, then, no, it's not necessary.
Oddly, other people don't share your confidence. And before you start with the "stockpiling causes panic buying " thing, people on here have been talking about doing this steadily, proportionately and within budget for months - while we still have a functioning Just In Time food supply and distribution system.

I live in a small flat, so not much storage room: is there some sort of checklist for the basics? I presume its the imported goods that will be harder to get hold of. I mean, we're not prepping for the end of the world are we? nervously

Report
bellinisurge · 09/02/2019 08:00

@StoatofDisarray just focus on what you actually eat. If you don't like pasta, don't get it. It's not about preparing for the end of the world, it's about getting some resilience in your pantry in case there's some food supply issues and/or some price rises. Everybody probably already has a bit of a buffer there without realising it but you might be short on the things you rely on to make a tolerable meal (or even a nice one). So look at freezer/shelf stable versions, particularly of what you normally buy fresh. Nobody can prep for every eventuality or for an indefinite period- there's cost, space and frankly, possible anxiety to manage.
I've been suggesting three days. I'm an actual prepper but you don't have to be to get some resilience in.

Thanks! I mostly eat eggs, meat and fresh vegetables, so I guess I could freeze some joints, but DP is a vegan, so beans, tinned tomatoes and pasta for him. Toilet paper! starts scribbling notes omg coffee...
