The EU Withdrawal Bill made it through the Commons. Though May did not manage it unscathed.

In an attempt to divide and conquer the Rebels, May might have damaged trust. We shall find out. The Grieve Amendment faces the Lords. We also will see if the Lords will back down on their amendments or apply some new ones for the Commons to deal with in Parliamentary Ping Pong.

Aaron Banks has been exposed as being pally with the Russian Embassy in a plot twist that absolutely everyone saw coming.

Meanwhile the EU thinks we have already run out of time and is preparing options to extend talks beyond the a50 deadline. These include having MEPs for the 2019 - 2024 session.

There is also growing talk around Europe that freedom of movement in its current form is unsustainable. Ironically we might see the EU adopt something akin to Cameron's pre-referendum proposals as the EU reforms.

Theresa May has also announced - at a moment when she is looking particularly weak - a new tax for the NHS, cunningly disguised in spin as 'the Brexit dividend'. Of course shareholders don't always get dividends and at times of poor economic performance instead might be asked to stump up extra capital...Expect to see buses with £350 million of the side just in time for the next general election cycle.

And so the Zombie PM limbers on towards the end of the summer session and the relative safety of the summer holidays. More drama, cringing and disbelief guaranteed before we get there.

Meanwhile, Italy has become the latest country to say no to endless boatloads of migrants, while Germany may finally be starting to say no to Merkel and her own bonkers policies.

It will be ironic if Britain leaves just as Europe begins to fix itself - I wish they'd done so earlier, so we didn't have to go.

I am failing to understand why the EU don't just tell the UK to '*uck off' and present Mrs May with the bill for the extra work that the EU has had to put in while watching the kids in the pram throwing the toys out. Plus the 40 Billion that is due to be paid for work in hand.
The concept that parliament will close for (long) holidays at a time when 'quite serious' things need sorting out is staggering.

Absolutely @commonarewe.
Had the UK hung in there a while longer things would have been so different. It was obvious that the immigration/refugee crisis is going to be a massive issue and it is a black mark to the EU in that no solutions have been found yet but in partial defense getting all 27/28 to agree on a 'best' policy was always going to be tricky.
The UK receives very few of these immigrants directly due to geography, you won't survive in the North or Irish sea for any length of time so the EU 'requirement' for first footfall country hosting immigrants didn't apply.
Maybe a sneaky workaround for Italy Spain etc would be to pick up the refugees and ferry them around to the coast off Cornwall or Wales and put them adrift in decent boats there. International law states they would have to be looked after.

What is 'right', legal and moral are 3 separate ways of looking at things.
OK rather than that plan, if suitable ships were 'accidentally left drifting' suitable for immigrants to make it as far as UK waters that would be more acceptable. Possibly like Russia 'accidentally' left some nerve agent out and some naughty people took it and used it to (allegedly) poison the Scripals. 'I only popped out of the office for a minute and it disappeared'.
Of course had the UK continued with discussions on the immigrants getting from N Africa etc to Southern Europe we may have got closer to a solution. Financially the UK is likely to lose out more with the Brexit shambles than if it accepted ALL the immigrants and built houses for them in England.

It's not just the UK that wants Europe's external borders secured, virtually every European country has seen either a surge in the far right or their rise to government because of the open borders loons' fanatical obsession with allowing all and sundry into the Continent.

If we stayed in the EU and were prepared to accept large scale immigration then the EU would very likely support us with the costs. I would expect negotiations of this sort of direction are well underway in Brussels now. I suppose your solution would be to kill them all now and help the various regimes that are doing this already. It would be interesting to know how many trained doctors, nurses and surgeons are among those trying to escape. You seem to think that so many of these WANT to leave homes, jobs friends and family, for the greater part they don't, life used to be good in that part of the world. Damascus WAS a beautiful vibrant city.
