May's Speech Abbreviated:

We still have nfi how we are going to do this. EU this is your fault. You sort it out. We are too lazy, workshy and fighting like high school children to work it out ourselves. Be our whipping boy.

I support democracy as long as I get to do whatever I like
I support human rights as long as I can ignore them when I like.
I support the rule of law except when it doesn't suit my agenda.

Waffle waffle.

"Creative", "Dynamic" PR for my Premiership.

Waffle waffle

We really need policing cooperation, PLEASE keep it with us. I know I threatened to withdraw this, but I'm sorry, I was wrong and a bit of a dick about this.

Gets to the point FINALLY.

"2 year transition period"

(With another time bomb lock which is still too short for IT departments. Nothing to do with the next general election, honest).

RULE BRITANNIA!

Polite Applause.

Thank you, Red. What an embarrassment. All those air fares for that??!?!

LurkingHusband · 22/09/2017 15:11

.

CardinalSin · 22/09/2017 15:12

I only caught some of it, but that was enough to make me realise she wasn't going to say anything. And she still managed to be more embarrassing than the last time she made a speech.

woman11017 · 22/09/2017 15:12

Smile cheers red

prettybird · 22/09/2017 15:14

She proudly stated how respected UK Law is throughout the world.

Two points:

  1. Has she forgotten about Scots Law?
  2. Not it isn't, any more.
OlennasWimple · 22/09/2017 15:15

Thanks again Red

You're surprised?

I'd have been gobsmacked if it was any different.

This is what eating humble pie very, very, very slowly is going to look like.

"Smooth and orderly". Can we have a drinking game?! Wink

BiglyBadgers · 22/09/2017 15:17

A new thread...same old shit...sigh..

woman11017 · 22/09/2017 15:17

@stephenkb
Won't be Singapore, won't be Norway, won't be Canada. Why don't we just stay in the EU?

RedToothBrush · 22/09/2017 15:18

John Hyde‏@JohnHyde1982
Theresa May couldn't name a single specific concession we've secured from the EU during negotiations. #florencespeech

Law and policy‏@davidallengreen
May's speech more-or-less means that the Article 50 notification should not have been sent until at least March 2019.

Peter Foster‏@pmdfoster
Boom. "UK will honour commitments we have made"
#FlorenceSpeech

This was key language EU wanted. Word for word.

So. Anyone here watch the speech with a Leaver ???

I'm holed up in a hospital outpatients ... No one here knew there was a speech .

Badders08 · 22/09/2017 15:18

Does this mean an end to a hard brexit?

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 22/09/2017 15:19

Thanks red

I knew there wasnt going to be anything good in the speech

RedToothBrush · 22/09/2017 15:19

Tom Chivers‏ @TomChivers
So I plugged in death rates and birth rates, and I think that by about 2021, Remain would win a referendum

The Tory party conference speech: explaining why free movement, payments to EU and ECJ continue until 2021.

LurkingHusband · 22/09/2017 15:22

Why don't we just stay in the EU?

Many moons ago, somewhere in these threads, a Leaver expressed their view ...

I just want the best possible deal

To which the immediate reply came:

We had. It was called the EU ....

Badders08 · 22/09/2017 15:23

There will be some leavers very unhappy that we aren't just walking off a cliff away

Very little of this May speech engages directly with Barnier's speech yesterday.

Still huge gap.

The Tory party conference speech: explaining why free movement, payments to EU and ECJ continue until 2021.

BBC commentary is hilarious. They are pretty much saying that most of the stuff that May said, we can do WITHIN the EU or ALREADY happens.

What is the point in Brexit again?

And the EU could just say 'No' to May's one thing about wanting a transition.

OP posts:
IrenetheQuaint · 22/09/2017 15:25

So are we staying in the EEA/customs union during transition? I'm still unclear.

woman11017 · 22/09/2017 15:26

Transition to cover the life of a tory gov. Labour takes office while economy goes into tailspin.

LurkingHusband · 22/09/2017 15:28

So are we staying in the EEA/customs union during transition? I'm still unclear.

If they'll still have us. And we abide by the ECJ ?

I don't think the Italians realise the live feed is still on!

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 22/09/2017 15:31

Oooh what are they saying

allegretto · 22/09/2017 15:33

Just some chit chat. One just said "Teresa, senti quanto pesa" which after googling I think was not a comment on her weight but the words of a song??! Someone also sang "media circus".
