I'm honestly not sure I could go through another referendum again, I have precarious mental health as it is! But if it came to offering a chance to vote on outcome as opposed to this sudden lurch towards a hard Brexit, I might consider it.

I actually don't want a second Referendum either but I do want the govt to listen to concerns rather than dressing up the concerns of far right Tories as the will of the people. If this is a way to get them to listen then I'm for it...
(but personally I would van referenda after all we live in a parliamentary democracy.)

I'm intrigued, had Remainers won the referendum, what would they think if Leavers, over a year later, were still moaning about the result and putting out endless petitions demanding another referendum? I think, rightly the majority would say that there was no necessity for another.

That's how I feel as a Leave voter.

If leave had a coherent argument I'd doubt anyone would be chipping away. And generally a government works with a super majority for something like a Referendum. If there was a super majority they'd be no problem.

Btw leavers moaned and chipped away for over 40 years. That's how we ended up with a Referendum and in this mess

I think that would have been justified if the original result had been very close, and there was evidence of a change in public opinion.

I would very much like to see your evidence that there has been a change in public opinion because I don't believe that to be the case. Yes, I've read of a few Leavers changing their mind, but the reverse is also true of a handful of Remainers.

silvery the difference is that anyone with an eye to the news can see that every day, the risk of the U.K. ending up a laughing stock basket case is getting higher and higher. Really, it's leavers' patriotic duty to point this out, rather than cleave to a disastrous vote just to avoid losing face.

This is precisely what Nigel Farage promised to do if Leave didn't win; also, a petition was started (by a Leaver) in about March 2016, that said the Referendum should be rerun unless there was at least 2/3 result in first Referendum. So given the close result, Leavers have already said very strongly that Remainers are perfectly valid to keep agitating for as long as we like & as much as we like.

So what would the purpose of another referendum be - what would actually happen if we voted the final Brexit agreement out? We would leave anyway without an agreement or are you hoping that we then wouldn't leave?

Elections every few years, seems reasonable to do the same with other types of opinion poll.

There is no point in another vote unless we get a resounding Remain result.

Farage said that if the result was 52/48 for Remain then it would be unfinished business. In the event the result was closer than that (48.1/51.9 if you don't steal votes from Remain round up the Leave vote). So I feel 100% justified in continuing to hope for a different outcome from a new referendum.
