Remainers voting Labour - am I missing something ?

Unless I am wildly misinformed, the official stance of the Labour party is to support Brexit ?

So why would a voter who wants to remain in the EU vote Labour ?

My departing Labour MP was one of the cheerleaders for Brexit (not that you would know now, she has disappeared off the radar for some reason)

I think it depends on who the local Labour candidate is, their chances of winning, and their views on Brexit. Voting for an incumbent with a large majority and anti-Brexit views is good in the long run, will help to get rid of Corbyn and change party policy on Brexit. However, if the Lib Dem (or Green) candidate is best placed to win, or the local Lab candidate is pro-Brexit, then it doesn't make any sense.

Was your MP Gisela Stuart by any chance, LH? She went mighty quiet after 24th June, didn't she? When she should have been out there championing the NHS.

It's a difficult one LH. The Tory candidate is likely to toe the party line, with the honourable exception of Ken Clarke, all the others have done, even if they professed that they voted Remain. Their interest is in themselves and the Tory party IMO. However, a good few Labour MPs did defy the whip, so there are still some people with principles around.

Then again, it depends on how close it's likely to be and who your candidate is. I think in your case, I would still take be inclined to take a punt on Labour.

There's also the possibility of vote swapping?

Because votes should be based on more than one thing. Brexit is happening, it's late in the game to change that and basing the vote on that is a red herring. I'm more concerned about everything else that will happen over the next four years.

I wondered if the MP was Gisela Stuart, too. If any Labour MP should be sticking around to help clean up the mess, it's her. However, she has always had a slim majority, and I suspect she knows the seat will go Conservative in June.

I am not voting in some vague hope that Labour will abandon their stated policy.

Recently, I had the experience of studying in mixed group for a week .. (I was twice the age of the next oldest student).

It was interesting that in the group of nine there were no Tories and no Leavers - all 9 were very enthusiastic remain supporters (which makes me question a 48/52 split in the wider population).

However tellingly, 3 could not vote yet, but could before 2020.

Lurking It's a difficult one, but if the alternative is to allow a Tory candidate to win, then voting for the best placed anti-Brexit candidate might be that best choice. However, if in doubt, I would say vote Lib Dem, as the national share of the vote is important too.

We have local elections for the council which controls our schools, roads etc. But my mp is in a different area. So its no good voting on local issues in the general elections

I am voting based on finding the party whose manifesto has more positives for me than negatives

Its a shame that the two parties most likely to ever have an outright win seem to be so shit

This general election is about Brexshit.

This general election was called because of the CPS investigations into 24+ Tory MPs and their fraud during the last election.

So if you voted Remain then vote LibDem unless your incumbent Labour MP rebelled against Article 50.

One driver, yes. Electoral fraud another, a realisation that Brexit can't be achieved in two years. Ten months have already been wasted, and now the GE is taking up valuable time.

Console yourself, that as long as those young people don't change their minds significantly in 5 years, they will still be around for a long, long time.

I always recall a London Review of Books article just after the Referendum which predicted that we would spend 5 years trying to leave and 5 trying to rejoin. Well, so far we have wasted nearly one trying to leave.

My Labour MP defied the whip to vote against the Brexit bill so I will be sticking with her. If she loses we will get a Consevative, so not likely to be more any more Remain supporting and likely to be worse on a lot of other issues.

Although currently Labours policy is to back Brexit but and it is a relevant but I think if Labour were given the reigns more note would be taken of anti brexit marches

Id like to hope that Labour could make the plea of delaying brexit by funding those areas that have been hit hardest by immigration and lack of funding and make some way in proving that with the correct governmental support immigration should be a smaller issue than some think it is.

I will add that I am a Labour member and a remainer so my bias features heavily in this post

The mood I'm getting from around here is that it doesn't matter how hard or fast the Brexit that the Tories are heading for, anything - but anything - is preferable to a Corbyn-led labour government. Go figure.

At this point, for me, its not about stopping Brexit so much as tempering the worst of it.
Realistically I can't see it being blocked now - but it doesn't have to be Mays interpretation of a hard Brexit.
I'm voting for whoever has the best chance of preventing a huge Tory majority.

Makes sense to vote Labour if the only other viable candidate is a Tory, or if the MP is a remain supporter. I am a card carrying LD but would vote for David Lammy if I still had a vote (in my most recent constituency). Good MP and a remainer, no reason to punish him because his party has taken leave of its senses.

I have a good friend who is a strong remainer but still a corbynite Labour voter - for him I guess other issues come first. Not everyone is a single issue voter.

My Tory MP is a hard brexiteer who thinks he is the "man of the people" while he drives his Bentley/Lexus SUV/ and other high end vehicle in town.

A good comment made over on one of the facebook groups I belong to, is that Brexit is first and foremost the Tory baby. If other parties denied May her majority, and could form an alternative government, they would have a lot more wiggle room in negotiations, certainly as far as scrapping a hard Brexit is concerned.

Remainer here, also voting Labour. Because Labour is the most likely to beat Tories where I am. Also because even if Labour still go ahead with Brexit, it will be better than a Tory Brexit, and Corbyn t the very least wants to put the deal to a vote, whereas May just wants to steamroller our rights as fast as possible for as much profit as her grubby hands can get.
