Theresa May has today said the UK wants to maintain the closest possible economic ties with the EU and to guarantee the rights of EU citizens living in the EU.

Are any Leave voters actually happy with that?

No Bear. I for one have always wanted to ensure that the current EU citizens in the UK are able to stay. But the whole point of the immigration argument for me was that we shouldn't have to have an open door policy in the future for EU citizens and that they should be treated the same as anyone else from the rest of the world. That was the stance of the leave campaign all along.

Unless you poll them all no one would know. I campaigned for remain and those that wanted leave that I spoke to it was about future control of borders.

It is the open door policy ongoing that many had an issue with imo.

As for economic ties it depends what it means. Those 2 words could mean numerous things and can't be speculated on without more detail.

That might not be how they saw it but that is what the leave campaign always said.
Just because May has said she wants to maintain the 'closest economic ties' with the EU, which is what we all want, it doesn't mean we are necessarily going to lay down and accept every demand the EU puts in front of us. I think we will still go in hard and say we will not accept free movement so would only accept the single market on our terms.

My interpretation of this is that it's not limited to those currently in the UK though, it doesn't sound like any change from the current situation.

Theresa May said she hoped to be able to address the issue early on in Brexit talks to provide certainty for those living in Britain and UK nationals living in EU countries.

She reiterated that the UK must be able to control immigration, but also get the "best possible deal" for its economy.

She said: "I want to be able to guarantee their rights in the UK. I expect to, I intend to. But it's not possible if the rights of UK nationals living in other EU states are not guaranteed.

^ that is very different from what we have now.

EU Immigration can't be controlled at all at the moment.

Well you interpreted it wrong Bear. I listened to her live and she definitely was only talking about EU citizens currently in the UK and UK citizens currently in the EU.

There is no way that the UK will be able to have all the benefits of EU membership, but not have freedom of movement.

May is deluded if she thinks that can happen.

She's not deluded Itsallgoing, she's putting up a strong case on our behalf and I would expect her to do any less.

I voted leave.
I am not anti immigration, but I am pro control over immigration.
I want to be able to trade with the EU, but not to have our wages suppressed by foreign workers willing to work for (what we consider to be) peanuts, so that our own people spend their lives on benefits rather than getting a decent wage doing manual jobs.
I want people from the EU to have the same acess rights as people from anywhere else in the world so everyone has an equal chance of coming to the UK.

What politicians say is often very carefully scripted so people hear what they want to hear- its non-commital and can be twisted round if required.

I've not seen any indication we're going for an all out Brexit- everything looks very watered down to me.

The fact there's so little being said full stop is testament to that too.

What will happen is anyone's guess, the whole thing has been a shambles. I can't help but think the EU will make an example of us, to deter the EU countries from getting any ideas.

I'm fine with that. Brexit is a process, not an event, and a measured and managed Brexit will de-risk it while still freeing us of supranational rule.

I read so little being said because we at least 6 months from activating article 50. There is plenty of time, no need to rush.

As a leave voter, everything is panning out as I'd hoped. Apart from the fact I wanted Cameron to stay on, although now I can see TM will get the better brexit deal so even that's working out.
